It's not a secret that now BB is just a shadow of its former self, but why? Lots just blame it on CBB5 and I don't think that's entirely true because CBB is doing alot better than BBUK. So how do you think Big Brother died?

It was the combination of Nikki returning to BB7, the CBB5 racism row and then the all female launch of BB8 all happening consecutively over the space of a year.

By BB7, the show had started to become contrived which no doubt put people off. CBB5 didn't help either with the stunt of putting Jade back in, culminating in the race row. But I think there was still a lot of hope for BB8 (its launch rated higher than BB6's two years prior) but the all-female launch and the awful production of that series turned even more people away. I also think scrapping 24/7 live feed during CBB6/BB10 didn't help either hence the worryingly low ratings for those two series at the time. |

I think when the fake romances, OTT housemates, Fame hungry wannabe's, Twist after Twist. Revolving Door of housemates in later series. The racism row definitely was a blow, and BB never really recovered ground and Channel 4 after that clearly wanted rid of BB. |

By BB7, Endemol was obviously becoming very tacky, by dishing out twists every week (Big Brotherhood, Golden Ticket, The Other House and Nikki going back in for the last week), that were very poorly executed...and it was obvious that the end was coming...
CBB5's racism row made BB go downhill, fast, I think that's the main reason why BB got killed (even though BB13-BB14 era was a revival of sorts)...had the racist scandal not have happened, I think the casting for everything post Jan 2007, would have been on par with BB6... But I think removing the 24/7 live feed, and the outside contact (David and Lisa's double decker bus task), both taking place during BB10, really made the GP lose faith in BB, especially due to the producers breaking the fundamental rule of BB... |

Lmao, I think CBB7 was the highest rated series since BB8 at the time (and still is). It averaged 3.7m
Forgettable series though. Last edited by Jason.; 05-02-2017 at 01:35 PM. |

Oh wow at CBB6 getting the same as CBB13 and CBB15. That's amazing for Channel 5 considering they aired 5 and 6 years on from CBB6 and were on a lesser known channel.

Why did the BB8 all female launch flop? I thought it was amazing (and tbh I would have loved that series with just the launch cast)

I do think the racist row did hurt the show immensely, it lost it's fun side with that. The Vote back in with Nikki from BB7 really hurt too. I think putting the show on longer instead of the eight weeks wasn't the smartest idea. I also think it just lost it's shine with a big audience. I think doing it every summer was a bad idea, they should have left it every two years. For me BB1 to BB7 is it's peak years. |

Hmm yeah I could see how that would annoy people but I found it hilarious how deluded they were especially legend Shabnam going on about getting "deals"

I think BB4 being so boring, was the turning point. After that, everything became forced and manufactured.

Channel 5.
They made it tacky af. I'm very inclined to think BB was only going to be rested by C4 in prep for a big comeback a few years later to revive dwindling viewer numbers but obviously C5 got in the way of this. I feel like, especially now, there is a desire for noughties-esque reality TV to bring it back instead of current shows that you can't help roll your eyes at :/ C4 BB could've filled that gap and that's such a shame. /rant Last edited by T*; 18-02-2017 at 06:53 PM. |

People don't realise that the same people who made bb on channel4 moved to channel 5 over the years the main producer has changed but its the same old faces.
Bb died because it went from a reality show to a game show it got shorter and they started using agents to find house mates. |

A mixture of CBB5 & BB8. The audience for BB8 was there; it launched with 6.6 million viewers and had the 4th highest launch figure at the time or something? The all female cast didn't help but after the first week figures went downhill.
