Anne is, believe it or not, quite a forward thinking 'older lady' she said she had no problem with gay marriage in a registry office but objected to a 'religious marriage', not exactly homophobic

Regardless of what people believe, as long as you are respectful of others, that should be enough. Andrew, on the other hand, is not respectful of other peoples beliefs

Though I suspect he would behave differently if Anne were a Muslim woman, just to stay on the right side of PC

She doesn't "believe" in gay marriage (well, it exists so believe is a funny word) because she doesn't think they are equal to heterosexuals and that their relationships should be acknowledged legally. That's homophobia.

Rubbish. She said gay marriage "alienated" her as a Christian woman.

She voted against gay couples adopting as she thought only married heterosexuals should be afforded that right.

No. It's not a blanket term, it's fairly simple.

If you discriminate against a gay person simply because they are gay you are homophobic.

Pointing out she's homophobic because she does not believe and has said she doesn't view homosexual relationships "equal" to a heterosexual relationship is a fact. It's not name calling, it's a fact.

Whether that is for religious reasons or not, it is what it is.

I don't know what rapists have to do with the discussion tbh.

That's got nothing to do with anything.

Not all votes are basically asking "Do you find Human A as valid and equal to Human B".

If she voted against the rights of black people to get married, that would be racist as she would be denying them rights other people have based on skin colour. So denying homosexuals the rights of straight people based on their sexuality is homophobic.

It really is that simple.
