Default Emo\'s targeted on public transport

I read somewhere recently that a lot of emo’s have been beaten up and are being targeted on public transport. One girl was even called an ‘emo s*ut’ and punched in the stomach.
Do you think the emo sub-culture should have a right to express themselves with makeup and clothes or does their appearance gather the wrong attention meaning they should take their exterior down a notch?

Where I live, they're deathly targets. Their the one thing gangs like to take on. There's a massive group of them in my school, and the 'gangsta' group are always targetting them. I think it's just the way they feel to express themselves, through fashion etc which is the thing that makes them a target, because they're so different. It's just not acceptable to some people.

I disagree with emo-haters and anything to do with beating the **** out of people and what not but I also disagree with the vast majority of the emo-culture with their bad music , rich dads and made up problems in life.

This is so sad, I hate the fact that any group of people will be targets for violence because of the style of life they live, its just wrong.

Its a constant problem over here. Their are gangs of 16-19 year olds who just go around on a Friday night looking for someone to kick the head off.

Thats so sad really for those being attacked and for those doing the attacking. What makes young people think that this is an acceptable thing to do. Where is their parental supervision, their role models. Why have the nothing better to do?

They glorify it on their Bebo pages then putting it down as their interests ''Blitzing the gaf and ruining polish lives''.

Its all sickening really. Makes social life a real grey area. I hate Cork anyway , theirs no bloody culture or acceptance for anything out of the norm in it.

Stu that sounds so sad - I feel lucky that I live in an area that accepts other cultures and general differences. No it is not perfect here but nothing like what you describe

Everybody should be able to express themselves without being the target of hate, within reason (ie, as long as it is not offensive). Predjudices do unfortunately exist, but this is just mindless violence.

This is Blair's Britain people. Chav Culture and Asbo Pride are in abundance.

I was a goth at school and I got targetted a bit for it, but it didn't bother me too much cuz there were just as many of us as there were of the 'casuals'. People should be able to dress how they like and be how they wanna be without the shiit they have to put up with in today's lawless British society!

At our school, its cool to dress in black and act gothy, theres the wannabe models and the gothys and they mix fine together, i'm just a quite one who trys to fit in with the gothys, it really depends on the areas because gothys never get targeted here, well i haven't seen any.

You are lucky Ruth. It sounds like your school and area are quite good for people getting along.

I guess it's true what you say, it does depend on the area and the amount of little thugs that are being raised to think it's ok to kick the shiit out of someone for no reason. There are a lot of them around here, and you can see that they are heading for trouble before they even get to 16.

You get the odd clashes between chavs and emos round here, but really I don't see what's wrong with emos... it's not so much them that's the problem, even though made up problems are a bit overboard. I just don't like the idea of groups at all, but sadly I can always see them existing... people just want to be individual, different, and feel they can express themselves by dressing and acting like someone of a particular group. Mind you, this is not always the case but it happens to a lot of people.

Thats EXACTLY my opinion. You should be allowed do WHATEVER you want with your life as long as it does not interfere with another life in a negative way.

Totally disagree - no-one should be targeted - we should all be able to express ourselves freely. Whether we dress to follow the crowd or try to be a little individual shouldnt matter at all.

What i mean is the Chavs that are targeting the emos in the first place need to be targeted and stopped.

It's a problem in Birmingham too, althought it's not just the emo's... it's anyone who doesn't roam around looking like a JJB convention.

They attack people who are different, most recently a group of drunken chavs decided to head into an Indie club in Birmingham city centre and started fighting everyone on the dancefloor just because they were dancing to Indie music (me being one of them).

They are sad pathetic people.

Emokids annoy me.
They all lookalike, and they're music sounds the same to me.
&how some kiss the same sex for a camera to look cool.
But tbh.
They dont deserve to be beaten up over it
I could be classed emo.
I dont think I am since I hate to be labelled.
But I'm more emo than anything else if I was to be labelled.
At our school, we do get targetted by chavs, but like.. they generally lay off us when we comeback to things.

I think Emo culture isnt hated because of the clothes and hair, its more to do with the made up problems, the self harm and plain conciete in general life. Its quite a selfish culture.

Yeah thats the one.

They all live on stereotypes, so if you happen to have long hair, you want to slit your wrists and constantly talk about death! It's just narrowminded and they really don't have a clue. Like a few weeks ago someone just randomly came upto me and said, what music do you like, so i reply 'Indie & Rock'... there reply was, 'What... Marylin Manson?!'... I think that say it all really.

That person sounds ignorant, its like the way all gays have to listen to Cher Bluurrrggghh!

Emo or whatever is cool, its when people use a culture for there own narrsassitic means is when it gets annoying, that can be said for many sub-cultures.It just seems more apparent in emo, because the main people involved are 13-17 year olds.
