A shocking video captures the moment a white man climbs on seats and makes monkey noises in an apparent racist attack on a black commuter on a London Underground train. Mohammed Dirir, 27, filmed as the man racially abused him on Friday night on the Northern Line, just before Kennington station. He claims the man pretended to be a monkey before he started recording, so he asked him to repeat the movements on camera, telling him to ‘do it for the ‘gram’.

The man, fully aware he is being filmed, then jumps on seats, swings from poles, and makes exaggerated ape-like noises. Despite being challenged several times, the man – one of a group of six white males – was unapologetic and laughed and joked about the apparent abuse, Mohammed said.

Posting the video on Instagram, he wrote: ‘Racism is still alive. To all my people of colour around the world, stay strong. ‘Let’s end this epidemic once and for all.’ A friend of the victim also posted the video to Twitter, where it has been shared thousands of times.

How did the man with the camera know that the other lad pretending to be a monkey was anything to do with him or racism as the video does not show this?

Making monkey sounds at a POC only ever has one meaning, especially in the manner he was doing it. There's only one explanation and no amount of handwringing and excusing the obvious racism in the video is going to explain it away as anything but.

he wasnt at the start, the poc then asked him to do it and he obliged but there is nothing in the video that suggests that it was aimed at him miles away initially or am i missing a bit?

The man in the video may or may not have been racist, we can't tell at this point... but monkey noises have long been used against black people.

thats the problem this video does not tell us that and as such is fairly useless other than a dog whistle exercise to man the pitchforks and take to the streets

i mean in London to imitate a monkey like that is a bad idea in public and in general but you cant just assume its racially motivated, life does not work like that
