A ban on tourists sitting on Rome’s famous Spanish Steps has divided the capital, with critics describing it as excessive and even “Fascist”.
Under new rules, police have started telling tourists they can no longer sit on the 135 steps, which sweep from the imposing church of Trinita de’ Monti down to Piazza di Spagna in the heart of the city. Visitors who defy the ban can be fined €250, which increases to €400 if they have dirtied or damaged the stone staircase, which was made famous by the 1953 romantic comedy Roman Holiday, starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world...cid=spartandhp Seems a bit draconian

have to say I wasn't that keen on Rome, the architecture and sites are amazing of course but the locals and that snotty attitude towards tourists would make me never want to return

Tbf with more people and more people travelling restrictions will spread. Amsterdam and Venice are unhappy with things, now Rome.

We said when we were there how much rubbish was just being left on the steps instead of in a bin

Good for them. Cluttering the place up and making a mess.
