Default Scottish Health Minister under fire for breaking her own rules

Quote:
Police have issued a warning to Scotland's chief medical officer for visiting her second home in Fife during the coronavirus lockdown.

Dr Catherine Calderwood is facing mounting criticism after pictures of her family trip to Earlsferry were published in The Scottish Sun.

She apologised "unreservedly" and said she would continue to focus on her job.

There have been calls for her to step down over the matter with MSPs describing her position as "untenable".

Chief Constable Iain Livingstone confirmed that local officers spoke to Dr Calderwood earlier today.

He said they reiterated crucial advice and issued a warning about her future conduct, all of which she accepted.

"The legal instructions on not leaving your home without a reasonable excuse apply to everyone," he said.

"Social distancing is the key intervention to curtail the spread of coronavirus and it is essential the instructions are followed to protect each other, support key workers, take strain from the NHS, and save lives.

"Individuals must not make personal exemptions bespoke to their own circumstances."

Dr Calderwood has joined Nicola Sturgeon in leading calls for the public to stay at home in order to save lives and protect the NHS.

Last month, the Scottish government issued a travel warning criticising the "irresponsible behaviour" of people with second homes and campervans travelling to the Highlands in a bid to isolate.

The Scottish Sun reported that Dr Calderwood and her family were seen walking across a golf course in Earlsferry, near their second home, on Saturday.

Earlsferry is a drive of more than an hour from Edinburgh, where they have their main family home.

What else is new about a bossy hypocrite wagging their fingers from on high and saying "do as I say and not as I do, dear oiks. Please stay inside and look the other way while I take my family to spend the weekends in my second home!"

she has lost all credibility with the public, why should anyone listen to her. Her position is untenable

Not that relevant as she didn't stay on, she resigned.

Cummings and Dr Calderwood aren't really comparable tbh. In either case we have to ask - where are they more useful? Resigning or keeping their post?

Calderwood would surely have been more useful if he kept her role, especially when there's a global pandemic; Cummings isn't so important.

That was my thinking at the time, but she did end up resigning regardless. Cummings on the other hand is going nowhere, despite his role being.......? Completely unknown tbqfh, suspicious, and sinister. A snake sat on Boris Johnson's shoulder hissing in his ear, with a completely undisclosed purpose, but we just have to accept it like it isn't right there in our faces. Really mad times.

The best bit is LT going back and changing the spelling of reckless in a cummings-esque fashion. I quoted his original post a few posts up.

Foolish but wouldn't call it a sackable offence.

The PM's mistress is at her second home... Where's the outrage for her?

Matt Hancock refused to answer earlier today, when he was asked if he's visited his 2nd home since lockdown.

I just don’t see how she can stay in office .. she said she made A mistake yet she did it on two weekends ..

Even in her speech she cleverly skated over this weekends trip with her FAMILY saying she went this weekend and also last weekend with her husband.

I don't think she can stay long term, she'll have to be replaced later this year. HOWEVER, replacing the CMO with a new person in the middle of a public health crisis doesn't seem like a very good idea. She should continue until things are more settled.
