Default Government u-turn after Marcus Rashford campaign school food voucher scheme extended

Quote:

A "Covid summer school fund" is being set up by the government to help feed children during the holidays, after a campaign by footballer Marcus Rashford.
Children eligible for free school meals in term time in England will get a six-week voucher, Downing Street said.

Footballers have been massive contributors to the NHS during this pandemic, and now they're fighting for the poor children of the country. Unfortunately, people will still vote for the party that constantly creates the need for such initiatives. Hancock even attacked footballers, whilst ignoring the real issue of tax avoidance by the uber wealthy.

Also, it's absolutely embarrassing that this wasn't Starmer. The dangers of picking a labour leader palatable to the rw media and the right of the party.

Exactly, I’ve seen people praising his actions on fb (which they should) however I know for a fact some of them voted in favour of child poverty less then 6 months ago.

The Tories are excellent at getting gullible people to vote against themselves.

No doubt you'll see Tories and their supporters screech about how footballers should focus on kicking around a ball and not politics.

a huge difference in what? good decent hardworking people who follow football, which attracts a small minority of prats? as opposed to what ever you mean with your inverted snobbery

Well.... Football players, you know, play football. Supporters watch and support.... The difference is kinda self explanatory.

Oh, but of course, supporters are more prone to displays of racism and violence.

Does everything need to boil down to race? Lets just celebrate a young English lad using his influence for good and helping out those less fortunate than him. Good on Marcus, it's refreshing to see.

Honestly I think free school meals should be all year round.

It's not like parents are any better off, or more able/inclined to cook when the schools are closed.

Indeed a lot of parents are worse off during school holidays due to the cost of childcare if they are working or just having higher shopping bills.due to them not being at school.

Well done Marcus

This is what you LIKE about the government?

You don't think any GOOD government wouldn't need to be nudged in this direction in the first place?
