Not a Party I'd personally likely ever trust again.
Even moreso after the nightmare leader they had during the last election. Who apart from the brexit issue. May as well have been a cheerleader for Johnson and co. Of these 2, I'd maybe listen more to Layla than the other one. At 18 I trusted this party with my first general election vote, it was an important choice at the time. All I got was support for extreme and cruel policies, broken promises and a never ending run of deceit. So I doubt my hand will ever waver over a Lib Dem candidate on any ballot paper. |

I'd be happy to trust them again - their lineup has completely changed since the Coalition, and there's no need to hold that stuff against them.
It would be worth them looking at why they lost so many seats when the big two parties have been pretty awful when the elections were held. They ha the hance to be the "sane alternative" vote and grab the disaffected voters turned away from Labour and the Tories, and maybe form another coalition. |

Layla Moran criticising Hamas is welcome, and something which more British politicians should do. Anyone serious about #FreePalestine should want rid of their awful "government" before any discussions are open.
This, along with her lukewarm support of Israel, would have helped the Lib Dems take disaffected voters from Labour, possibly? I know she wasn't the party leader then, but still Quote:

I fear they'll go for Ed Davey, however I'd prefer Layla Moran.
Not that I'm a Lib Dem supporter nor am likely to be. I just think Layla would be more open to compromising and a more concensus politics, particularly against the awful current extremes of this present administration in power. |

Ugh, it is Davey.
He's done next to nothing as acting leader. Also tarnished from the coalition too. A backward move by the Lib Dems in my view. |

He knows much more
than Moran. [Sir Ed, a former Cabinet minister in the Coalition government, secured 42,756 votes to beat fellow MP Layla Moran (24,564 votes) to the party's leadership.] https://news.sky.com/story/sir-ed-da...eader-12057611 Last edited by arista; 27-08-2020 at 10:50 AM. |

There's been no improvement under his acting leadership, in fact their polling, such as polling can be looked at, has gone down under him. As with Swinson, I think he'll have problems for the policies supported in the coalition. The Lib Dems needed a whole fresh start and break from the recent past. He is just another reminder of that past. Frankly, to me anyway, he already sounds like one of yesterday's men. Last edited by joeysteele; 27-08-2020 at 12:35 PM. |

Nah sorry.
I gave the Lib Dems a chance in 2010. He as a coalition Minister voted for near all policies I'd trusted them to vote against. So no way. As to giving him still a chance, what's he been doing since December for near three quarters of this year? Nothing of any single note whatsoever. Last edited by joeysteele; 27-08-2020 at 12:39 PM. |

I'm re thinking my view of him actually.
He was really impressive on QT last night. It may well be he could be a more promising leader of the Lib Dems. Sadly the conferences are just about pointless this year. They don't work without audiences at all. I'd be happy to hear more of Ed Davey now though. You were right arista to say, give him a chance. |
