Default Parliament Vote (21/10/20) Labour asks for School Dinners for children: England

The prime minister has stated
£1,000 added to Universal Credit per year.
That's a no from him.

Labour want School Dinners
to carry on in the holidays.

A LibDem MP bought it up.

A few Conservatives are going to vote with Labour at 7PM.
But will they get enough votes to win today?

The Tories turning down the chance to feed children? I am so shocked and not at all used to that party lacking basic empathy!

He claims everything nearly is covered by it.
IF you can get it and whenever you do.
At times it is obviously the help required.

This vote though is penny pinching to the lowest degree.
Not that I'm surprised he's against it.

How is it that universal credit didn't cover this in term times.
Also who finances universal credit.

Yes the taxpayer so why be so difficult messing about like this with children's welfare.

Will they Win the Vote?
They need all the SNP to help
and more Conservatives to vote with Labour

No I doubt it.
Despite many Con MPs thinking this should be done.

Few will risk or want black marks put against them by Johnson and Cummings, for following their conscience.

I think you'll find you're wrong there arista - poorer kids are more likely to be overweight because good quality food is expensive, junk is cheap, and also poorer kids are less likely to have physical extracurricular activities (which are also often not cheap - my daughter's stage school is over £100/month for example).

Sadly kids from low income families - if they don't have a sport (or if sport groups are cancelled/postponed) - are quite likely to end up overweight.

And also parents who cant feed their kids need prosecuting for child abuse.

Why are people have kids they cant even afford to feed.

Pathetic!

It’s 2020... getting a job is not that easy and simple anymore and luck may not be on their side do you realise how many stages you have to go through to get a job now?

Depends what job you are going for..

If you just need a job for cash...any cash..cash to feed a starving child..I would imagine you just go through one interview.

What colour is the sky in your world? It's not always that simple, and we can't all be as rich and well-travelled as you and michael21

That’s a pretty bull**** way of thinking.

Given the current global situation, I think it’s safe to say that times are hard and even harder for some whose situations were dire before even the pandemic.

arista I'm confused.

If you think the CON MPs now were right to vote against this.
May I ask you, (of course ignore my question if you wish, I've no right to ask it), why did you say the above after the vote?.

You're usually consistent yet now seem to agree with the government.
So I'm confused by your stance now.

I was reporting the numbers as they came on their screen
on Parliament TV.

No confusion.

Indeed you did.
However my confusion is from you now seeming to support the government voting it down.

With your word of it sadly being defeated.

I was sad it was defeated too..
However I'm not now advocating the government was right to do so.

Fair enough anyway arista.
