Default The Duke of Edinburgh transferred to St Bartholomew's Hospital

The Duke of Edinburgh has been transferred to St Bartholomew's Hospital to treat an infection - after 13 nights at another London hospital, Buckingham Palace has said.

Doctors treating Prince Philip, 99, will also undertake testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition, the palace said.

The duke is responding to treatment and "remains comfortable", the palace said.

He is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.

Philip, who turns 100 in June, was taken to King Edward VII's hospital in London on 16 February as a precaution after feeling unwell.

I'm not getting a good feeling about this

Just seen the trailer for the Oprah interview, if it's as sensational as the edit is claiming, the timing could not have been worse for them from a PR point of view

I would imagine he might be arranging his demise on the 7th to overshadow the event

...99yrs old and an infection that it’s being found difficult to get in top of and control is such a worry...we know that he’ll be getting the best care that anyone could have but when the body ages and deteriorates etc...it doesn’t matter how privileged the life.....

He has worked tirelessly for this country alongside the queen for nearly his whole adult life and deserves to be alive for a lot longer.

"deserves to be alive for a lot longer"? He's nearly 100 years old

Now I'm absolutely not saying that he "deserves" to die or that his family won't miss him when he's gone but, let's be realistic in terms of human lifespan, any Christmas you live to see past 80 is a bonus round and an extra two decades is pretty good going.

I don't mean to sound callous but I do sometimes think we have a weird relationship with death in the west (in terms of struggling to accept it as part of life). Really any death from "old age" should be appreciated for what it is. Sadly, many people don't get close to a full life.

...I was strangely reading some stuff about death a little while ago and how some cultures mourn/grieve the death of, as we do ...while other cultures celebrate the life of...it’s a very thought provoking thing to think about...

Yeah like I said he's nearly 100 , most people don't even make it past 90 .

Her gave up his own career for his wife, then worked with her until he retired in his nineties.

But hey, he's old... let him die. Right? It's Tibb. Maybe someone had him on the deathlist?

I don't think it's about letting him die or wanting him to die, really just the acceptance that at 90+ "incoming death" starts to become an inevitability. And I do think as a culture we have a bit of a fear of it/aversion to it as part of life.

Again yes its always sad for a family to lose someone, but on a larger scale, I feel like there's something to be celebrated in simply getting as far as 99. Like... He did it. He made it to the end of the "game of life", as far as can reasonably be expected. It is still sad - but it's not a life cut short.

That said I did mount a rather vocal opposition to the death list game this year, which didn't go down very well to be honest. I got in twouble for listing all of a member's family . I guess thinking about what I said above... The absolute worst part of that "game" is that a full life lived out isn't worth many points, and the "biggest scores" come into play for lives that have ended before you would expect. Lives cut shorter = more points. It is just gross.

I don't understand what is expected of a man who's 100 nearly in age . Nobody is wishing him bad, but we all know he's getting on.

And I never get involved in the deathlist on here either. As regardless of ill health or age,it will always be morbid .

When someone is dead and gone and they have had a good long life...which to me is 85 upwards, its fine to speak those words. However when you are still breathing and have your wits about you...and mentally you feel could go on for a few more.... its the last thing you want to read or hear.

They're waiting to announce it til after Oprah, so that they can say he saw Meghan and Haz saying mean things about the queen and immediately lost the will to live, and simply stopped.
