Default Skinniness

I have been wondering for a while whether to post a topic on this but I decided I might as well.

Anyways I was just thinking that being skinny these days is never ever seen as good and its very nice. For naturally skinny people they are always gotten told they are far too skinny and need to put some weight on. I personally am quite skinny and find it quite infuriating when people think I have a eating disorder of some sort.

Also in shops there is never enough 8´s. EVER. Theres always so many 12-16 but never 8´s. It seems the only healty weight that is seen atm is ´curvy´,whether naturally or not.

Opnions...

Good thread topic!

My daughter is like you naturally slim, she's just 14 (I was 6 when I had her) and worries about what other people think about her. We recently had a family get together and I felt absolutely honoured becuse the family members who hadn't seen her for a while commented on how tall she had grown, how long her legs were and how she looked like me. It was sort of a compliment to me but I have short fat stubby pink legs being a pig

My daughter was told by her school friends that she was anorexic. Not a chance! She's as fit as a flea however she needs to eat breakfast which she currently does not. As from Saturday it is her summer hols so I have 2 months to convert her to breakfast.

There is nothing wrong with being skinny Laura, I am slim, but I am one of those people who has nervous energy and never puts any weight on, which does make many jealous.

When you can fit into a really thin dress, then it is great

Many complain about this "Size Zero" thing and I do think that many of those who do have that figure, perhaps do go too far and starve themselves to get like that.

But, if someone looks at a girl/woman and takes the pi*s, because they are skinny, then just ignore them and be glad that you are that way.

Many overweight men/women would love to be skinny.

Regarding the 8's size. Luckily in the world of the internet, finding size 8 is a doddle. If shops don't accomodate, then the internet can really help.

I think skinny people get it just as tough as fat people do nowadays. You only have to look at the magazines to see that. One minute they are telling us a celeb is fat, then they are saying the same celeb is too thin. There doesn't seem to be an "ideal size".

We are all made differently. I've never been skinny Laura, and I must admit I envy your build. But, at the same time, some of my skinny friends envy my curves. Which proves the point that you want what you don't have.

As for the shops... I feel like the racks are filled with size 8s and 10s. I'm afraid I just aint squeezing into either of those!

So, I guess I should go shopping in your town and you should come shopping in mine.

Be happy with who you are and how you are built. Don't let others dictate what looks good and what doesn't. At the end of the day we have to just like ourselves.

That's my opinion, for what it's worth.

Many people want to change their appearances, it seems - everyone just needs to learn to be content with themselves. I am still only just coming to terms with this advice myself. Weight always seems to be an issue - whether you're skinny or not... and different people seem to have different opinions, which they in turn seem to impose on others (the media being a prime example).

They comment on celebs having gained weight, and then when the same ones become self-conscious and lose a lot of weight, they're targeted for being too skinny... it's a vicious circle really. I think the plentiful sizes of 12-16 in shops is because it is looked upon as the average weight for a woman in the UK, but what's 'normal' depends on your look, your overall shape, your diet and how you feel.

I think you're really lucky Laura for being naturally skinny - I put weight on extremely easily, but then I do lose it just as easily. (I think that's because of my love for junk food). At the end of the day, for all of us, confidence is the key - be comfortable within your own skin, and you'll be able to grin and bear it no matter what anyone says!

my daughter is also a size 8 but I certainly dont have problems buying clothes for her. I find that more and more the shops are full of size 6 & 8's which for those of us wearing a bigger size is infuriating.

I have been over the years at every end of the scale, size 8 then very very large, then back to what I think of as "just nice" but that is personal opinion really. I wanted to lose more weight but my hubby was horrified at the thought of it, he likes the fact that I have curves where I should have, he thinks it is womanly!!! that said he is all for me making my own choices.

I agree with Linda that skinny people have it as bad as fat people, when my daughter grows slightly she looks like she is slimmer when in fact she has just stretched a bit yet she is always being told she is thin which does nothing for her confidence. That said she might be a size 8 but she is a healthy 8 she exercises well, she eats well and she has curves where they should be just petite ones!

I have no problems with people who are naturally thin.

It's these Size Zero models that tend to irritate me.

Fully agree, Matt.
People who are naturally thin tend to be in proportion and so look pretty.
People who force themselves to be thin (most models) look rank and disgusting...

Same with fat people. Naturally big people look pretty, eaty fat people look disgusting.

There is two more things that are not that nice...

...those that starve themselves to look like these models, then get eating disorders...

...and those that are so skinny you can see their bones *shudders*

I'm not bothered about being skinny. I'm only annoyed by fat people who moan they're fat. It's like, well why are you eating too many twinkies or what ever.

Being skinny these days is either natural or you just don't eat. Models especially. Some people are just trying to be like them, though. You'd think hearing about models dying from being too skinny would throw them off but it hasn't.

The one thing that modeling agencies always want is skinny girls, who will look good wearing all those clothes, which is what it is all about.

But skinny people don't get as much flack as fat people do. So be thankful that you are skinny or slim.

I love being slim and will never get any bigger, never....

I totally agree. It would be a boring world if we were all clones of each other.

HaHa.. I loved that one.. "eaty fat people"

I'm one of those at the moment. I'm sorting out my bad eating habits at the moment.. I'm on a mission (which is a fancy word for a diet!)
