Default The Hunt with hounds: Labour trying to stop it, again

Live Debate Ian Dale
LBC

Local Hunts are tradition.

[Animal welfare campaigners are calling
on ministers to keep to a pledge to
toughen anti-hunt laws, as figures
suggest illegal foxhunting remains
widespread in England and Wales.

Almost 20 years since the
Hunting Act 2004 was brought in by
Tony Blair’s government,
the League Against Cruel Sports (Lacs) – the animal
welfare charity that was the driving force
behind the original ban – says its
data evidences how stronger legislation is
required to close loopholes and prohibit
trail hunting, which campaigners say
has been used as a smokescreen for
illegal foxhunting.
Trail hunting is where dogs follow
an animal-based scent.

The figures, which were released in
advance of the hunts’ Boxing Day parades,
were collated by Lacs from August and
encompassed both the cub-hunting
season and the first six weeks of the
foxhunting season,
which started in November.
They reveal 186 reports
of foxes being pursued by hunts
and 220 reports relating to suspected
illegal hunting incidents.]

Good for Labour.

I hope that they succeed.

I don't know what to say that will fix that issue if I'm being honest with you.

But I just don't like Foxes being illegally hunted no other reason than "the thrill."

If there was none of these despicable trail or actual hunts, then the hounds wouldn't need to bred to supply hounds for the hunts in the first place.
So no need to kill them Mock.

What thrill any disgraceful mind could get too though from chasing and exhausting a fox or in fact any animal, to have it ripped to pieces by trained hounds, is beyond any decency in my view.
I would like this Labour government to go even much further actually.
Actually doing right at last.

Fair points.

Especially the bottom paragraph, I 100% agree with everything that you've said on that.

Festive hunts are (by definition) infrequent, but Halal and Kosher are daily. If Labour care about animals cruelty, I know what I'd rather they focus on.

I would be looking into these traditions a lot closer if I was Labour.

Take the kent annual boxing day swim...342 people entered the water but 872 came out.

The Blair government didn't go far enough with this between 1997 to 2010.
However they started to do something at last.

Hunting is vile and barbaric.
It makes me feel really sick.
Plus the creeps partaking in the hunts are just despicable in my eyes.

I'm pleased Starmer and Labour are again looking at this and I hope more is done to stop it.
After both Cameron and May for the Cons in their time, had they got a good majority, they'd have made hunting LEGAL again.
Sick, absolutely sick.

Plus of course Farage and Reform are I believe firm supporters of hunting.
Farage certainly is.
That tells me all I need to know about him.

Nothing to cheer from me about as to that.
I can't stand near all he stands for, OR his Party.

Membership doesn't really mean that much though.
The Labour Party in 2017 and 2019 elections had way over double the Conservative membership.
Yet lost decisively as you know arista.

The poor animals hunted don't love it.
It's despicable.
Kick the creeps off their horses and have animals hunting them would be preferable.

Really!

These things can be used to cover live hunts

I wouldn't believe anything hunting organisations say.
I've seen in the Country how cruel and more to the point how devious the hunt organisers are.

Of course, some hound dogs are sadly, injured.

But other packs, are not.

The problem for the Labour Party is
do they want a local war with country folk?
