There's a discussion type show about a book about reality TV on Irish radio at 6.30 pm tonight. Might be interestingish. You can listen online here.

Just listened to this.
It is actually a book review, and there is a critique of a work about the whole of the reality TV phenomenom. A bit serious, rather philosophical. Talking about the ethics of psychologists being involved in reality tv, motivation of those who want to take part. Apparently it is replacing art as a means of expressing ourselves. The final chapter is devoted to a conspiracy theory about choosing/electing a candidate for the American Presidency. Me listening to Irish radio progs online? Yup, you guessed it, supposed to be studying! |

On the subject of reality shows I believe the book in question was this. All that I know about reality TV shows is that I enjoy them and I don't think anything else really matters. I've a feeling that the criticism that Big Brother and other shows from the genre come in for from the academic elite and social commentators is symptomatic of an anti-new agenda. It is always being argued that there is a place in the past that we can go to that it is better. TV just gets the same treatment. |
