You let me Down, Marc
Quote:
YOU LET ME DOWN, MARC Bannerman in a furious phone call for failing to be there when she was evicted.
The 38-year-old singer stormed: "You've let me down. I thought you'd be here for me."
Ex-EastEnder Marc - first contestant to be kicked off the ITV1 reality show - had written an astonishing note to Cerys saying he wanted to return to Australia to greet her when she came out.
But when the recently divorced Welsh beauty, who came fourth, emerged last Thursday Marc was sitting tight at his home in Kent.
He was still stunned after his actress girlfriend Sarah Matravers dumped him over the jungle lovebird antics with Cerys that gripped millions of viewers.
A friend of Cerys revealed last night that during her tense, 10-minute call Marc, 34, told the mother of two how sorry he was for letting her down.
"He was very, very apologetic to Cerys," the friend said. "He told her he was feeling he was 'in a bad place' with his life right now. He said he needed time to get his head together following the break-up of his relationship with Sarah.
"But he has promised to make it up to Cerys when she returns to the UK. I think Marc went some way towards calming Cerys's anger. But whether there's a future in the relationship, who knows?"
Cerys admitted immediately after her eviction that she was "gutted" to find Marc wasn't there. Her anguish had turned to anger by next morning when she made the call.
And she was still too upset last night to attend the boozy end-of-series bash. Cerys was understood to have stayed in her hotel room.
Fellow jungle star Katie Hopkins, 32, said of Cerys and Marc: "I think the two of them have things to sort out."
Another partygoer said: "All the celebswere talking about them. The girls agreed that they didn't want to see Cerys hurt - but most of the boys thought they should now get together."
Show runner-up Janice Dickinson, 53, said: "I feel sorry for Marc's girlfriend.
"Nevertheless this happened right here before us, the start of something that could be really beautiful.
"Cerys was overwhelmed with the news from Marc in the letter he sent into camp. And who predicted it? - Janice and her Cupid's arrow, of course." Talking about how romance blossomed between the pair, Janice said: "There's a whole lot of reachy reachy, touchy touchy that can take place in a hammock and they were in the hammock every night. He followed her everywhere.
"Marc fibbed and told me he was 24. That would make Cerys a bit of a cougar. What's a cougar? In the States a cougar is an older cat who goes after the younger boys.
She added: "Marc toldmehe can't wait to have children. He's very up for it."
Cerys - who had a string of hits with Catatonia in the 1990s - divorced American music producer Seth Riddle only last month.
She moved back to Wales to be near her family.
Her brother Richard, 35, believes the torment of the broken marriage drove her into Marc's arms.
Richard, a Formula One engineer, said: "I know she feels really uncomfortable about falling for someone in front of the nation.
"It started off as a bit of fun. They seemed to click straight away but itwent beyond that. It was much more than just flirting - something was happening."
He added: "We are praying she doesn't get hurt again."
