Dan is convinced that Jay's had a personality transplant since entering the House and is now a "miserable git."

Jay was quick to defend himself: "Are you forgetting what I was like in the first two weeks in here?" he protested. "I was Fun-time Frankie."

Dan wasn't impressed. "Sunshine, that was somebody else," he told Jay. "He got evicted two weeks ago, along with his leopard-print thong."

Cutting, but Dan's got a point. Sometimes it's difficult to equate the scheming, scowling Scot aka the Grumpy Old Man with the flirtatious chappie who entered the House wearing a broad smile and not much else.

So would the real Jason Cowan please stand up, and tell us what he's done with Fun-time Frankie?

One explanation for Jay's long face could be that he is missing Vanessa. Their relationship was never consummated, but at least it gave Jay something to do with his hands.

The touchy feely Scot loves to be petted and stroked, and though a frisson with Becki was heating up nicely, Jay's heart wasn't really in it.

The blond muscleman always perks up at the mention of Vanessa and sometimes muses on what will happen when the two meet up after Big Brother. Little does he know that Vanessa has already blamed their flirtation on "beer goggles."

Then the Grumpy Old Man...

Jay's relationship with Dan has more grey areas than a concrete factory show room. The housemates have identified a "definite sexual chemistry" between the pair despite Jay's recent claim that he is "100% heterosexual." Having said that, Jay has flirted with Dan from the moment he entered the House.

The trainee air steward has even confided in the House's mediator about being "insecure about his looks." But Ahmed and Victor's teasing about his sexuality has made Jay uncomfortable and his blossoming friendship with Dan has suffered.

Spending too much time with Victor is enough to make anyone twitchy. The East Londoner has a vision of the world where no one can be trusted. Jay has taken on the role of Victor's partner in bitching, but is it really healthy to indulge in all that negativity? "You've brought me down to your level," Jay said to Victor on Day 39. "And what a level to be at," beamed Victor.

When Jay's not busy plotting with Victor, he's often in bed administering to his wee man. So perhaps all this self-love is the cause of the muscleman's malaise.

Or is the simple answer that the Grumpy Old Man persona is in fact the real Jason? He has admitted to lying on his application form about being bisexual and sleeping with over 250 women in order to "create a character" he wished to play in the House.

Bring back the leopard-print thong, Jason, and all is forgiven...

As if he would of slept with 250 women. Most of the country can't stand him. I loved it when Shell said she thought Dan was better looking. He really didn't like that did he?
