Well, do you?
By making this thread, I'm referring to; - Chart positions. - Overrated/Underrated songs. - Would you stop listening to a song that flops? - Does the position a song charts at give you an impression about that song? - Do you only listen to music that's popular/in the charts? I personally don't. Obviously if there's a song I like, I want it to do well, but I'm not too bothered. As long as I like it, that's all that matters. I feel a lot of music is overrated/underrated. I believe artists like Rihanna get too much success, whereas other artists who really deserve to be known, don't. As I've said, chart positions really don't affect my tastes in music, I don't really follow the chart at all if I'm honest. If I'm really honest, if there's I'm more likely to listen to a song that charts low, as opposed to one that charts high; because I believe chart music's declined so much. Also one thing that I absolutely can't stand are people who only listen to 'what's popular'. Obviously each to their own and all that, but when people generate hype over a song just because it's gonna chart well, or it's played everywhere, it's annoying. What's your opinion? |

Nahh. I only do a bit because I listen to songs that are more in the charts because I listen to most songs as I have heard them on radio 1 so meaning most are in the charts. I don't care if its low in the charts or whatever. If I love the song then I love it.

I used to care about them, but then Mark Owen's singles started to flop I decided that good music doesn't do very well in them, so I don't anymore.

Yeah I do. I love mostly all chart music, and I'm constantly checking the iTunes store charts to see what's doing well and I'll listen to a sample of the song and if I like it, I'll buy it.

- Chart positions
A chart position has nothing to do with how good a song is but I would be happy if a band(I mean artist) I like charted highly. - Overrated/Underrated songs I think that really just depends on personal music taste. - Would you stop listening to a song that flops? God no. That would just be stupid. - Does the position a song charts at give you an impression about that song? No,theres some number 1's I can't stand and some songs that don't even chart that I adore. - Do you only listen to music that's popular/in the charts? No,I do listen to popular music but it would be a bit boring to only listen to chart music. Theres nowhere near enough variety. |

Not really. I only really follow it for artists I like. I want them to succeed in the charts.

The best songs and the best artists never make it into the charts... the only thing that makes it into charts these days it teeny pop and repetitive songs. Its a shame, some songs are catchy, but the real music with peoples hearts and souls in doesnt get the recognition it deserves.
If Britney released a diary like album... it would just flop. And people would label it a disaster, the only way britney can remain succesfull is if she keeps up with her dance/upbeat songs. Kelly made the mistake of writing seriously dark personal songs on her 3rd album and critics hated it because it wasnt radio friendly. Radio friendly songs to me arent real music, its just something you bop too on a night out or when you are getting ready. |

&I totally agree with the 'Radio friendly songs aren't real music'; it's the same with me. |

Nah, not anymore. I used to especially when CDUK was on but charts aren't an event anymore, you only need to sell about 50,000 copies to get to number one when at one point that wouldn't even get you in the top 40. The Christmas chart also used to be quite special and was like the height of the year for charts, but X Factor dominates the charts now so its just pointless.

I care about the charts. I look at the charts so I automatically know all the songs I won't like.
