The housemates have been set a story writing challenge - and each shackled couple has just one hour to compose and type an original story of no less than 500 words.

Only the housemates can be used as characters in the duo's tales. And to make it even harder, each person in the pair must take it in turns to type one letter at a time.

Three typewriters have been provided - one on the dining table, one in the sofa area and the other in the garden.

Details of the latest test was met with mixed reactions.

"It's lovely," said Shell scanning the laminate as she came out of the Diary Room to deliver the news.

"This is wicked!" confirmed Stuart.

But not everyone was quite so overjoyed. Daniel and Jason looked pensive on learning that they had to type alternate letters with their partners. And they were equally unimpressed with the one hour time limit.

"What? That's ridiculous!" said Daniel, as the gang disbanded to take up their positions at the typewriters.
