Default Musical Lovers

Any theatre goers here?
Me being a performing arts student, I should hate musical theatre. But there are some shows that are so captivating. What have people here gone too see?
Post youtube video's or discuss shows you are going too see soon, or even films you have seen.

Btw... any High school musical people in here, and I will personally scoop your eye balls out with a spoon and pour salt into your sockets!

I have picked quite mainstream songs to start with... any musical lovers... anywhere? I havent even got on to my wicked obsession yet!
Here are 2 performances I love atm:

The winner takes it all - Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia)

[b]Send in the clowns - Judi Dench (A little night music)

As if we never said goodbye - Sarah and Rachel on I'd do anything (Sunset boulevard)

Aw Fom I love you!

Right well my favourite musical is Annie! Hahaha only kidding!

My favourite musical is Miss Saigon - it is bloody brilliant and I have been to see it in the threatre about 4 times now. First seen it with my school for my standard grade music and thought it would be rubbish cos I had never heard of it but I sat there laughing, crying, loving characters, hating characters and just adored it.

Its something you really do need to see but its very emotional. I won't really tell you of the story as I feel that it does spoil it a little bit but if you want to know anything about it follow this link and read until your hearts content.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Saigon

Another musical that I love is Phantom of the Opera. Went to see it when I was 6 years old and then was in a dance production for a year with it in my area at the age of 11. I loved all the music and the mystery of the Phantom. And then the best thing happened in my life... they made a film! 2004! Oh what a year! I remember the first time I seen the trailor while I was sitting in the cinema and I cried - got over excited - had to wait another 10 months to see it! But I am soooo glad that the movie was a great success and they did the threatre production justice. It was an excellent film and will remain a classic in my DVD collection.

Mmmm dunno what else to add just now but will probs return as I am a major fan of musicals.

Im really excited for the next musical to be made into a hollywood filming. They are creating a film version of Wicked, and after seeing it live I cannot wait! It will be so interesting to see how well it goes down as the musical has a far more classical approach than hairspray/mamma mia. With a full orchestral band and opera singers its interesting what they will keep and wont.

I also... LOVE the phantom of the opera

A musical thats interesting me at the moment is 'Cabaret' I havent seen it, and I havent seen the film but im thinking of looking into it, the songs off it sound amazing, Liza Menneli is stunning!:

Anyhoo.
I love musicals.
so fkn much.
I practically live on them.
Faves would be Hairspray, RENT, Wicked, Phantom Of The Opera, Jersey Boys, Avenue Q and Footloose, though I don't think there are any musicals I don't like [I even love the disney ones, HSM etc]

I haven't been lucky enough to go seen any of them live at the theatre [despite living in London] mainly down to financial issues. I've asked my bf to take me a few times but he hates the things.

It's quite sad actually haha. I walk past all the theatres showing the musicals everytime I'm in Central London and stop and look/read all the posters and grab leaflets and stuff haha. I'd love to go but as I said, quite pricey.

I have seen The Woman In Black. Not a musical but an AMAZING piece of theatre. Terrifying. Everyone was like 'Darenn, listen, it's really scary' and I was like 'whateverr' and it scared the life outta me. Thoroughly amazing though.

I wanna be in musicals too! There are so many parts I wanna play, and hopefully will do in the future. Actually there's an opportunity to be in a production of West Side Story with a local theatre [haha, rival to my college/theatre], was thinking of doing that.

edit;; and sorry, but as much as I like HSM, it is nothing compared to POTO.

Well... at my college their is rivalries between us real actors and twirlies (Musical theatre folk) and its huge haha. If you ever saw a Twirlie act you would understand the hate for them :P But I do love Musical theatre, but it sometimes never delves as deep as I would like. Im not a fan of musicals like 'Fame' because they are too happy and lets jump about and everything's fine. I like to leave the theatre completely changed as a person.

And OMG Darenn! I am going to see woman in black in about 4/3 days! I am so excited to see it! I have always wanted to see it and I am SO excited, I have heard it is really scary! Eee... got any good points about it without ruining the story? You have just rekindled my anticipation for my London trip!

And Kawaii... I recommend you start running now, as I have just got my spoons and salt and I am looking for you. Phantom of the Opera is an amazing musical and you clearly haven't seen it, your comment just emphasizes the fact that the brains of the youth are turning into mush. Its nice to see Annie and Darenn appreciating real art, makes me have more faith in the british public. Not the stupid commercial rubbish that you get brainwashed into watching.

OH riiight.
The only rivalries in mine is between the Dance &Drama specializing classes [I'm in the latter] haha. We all get to do Musical Theatre but not until the second year. I asked my singing teacher [when he turns up] if I could do a MT song and he was like 'yeah but I can't really help you because I only really teach modern, soul and indian'. Or well, until next year. Ah well. I'll sing POTO in Indian until then. LOL.

It's terrifying. Without revealing too much, the first part builds up a lot of tension but it does cast doubt over the scariness. For the second half.. well.. just make sure you don't scream too loud. The actors are amazing [presuming you have the same actors] especially the younger guy. The story doesn't make much sense until the end either. You going to the Fortune theatre then? I love that place. I'm gonna come meet you all dressed in black with a hood up :]

I would also like to add that when I first seen HSM I hated the cheesiness but it was a good feeling film - my brother (god bless him) bought me tickets in February to go and see it in the threate... And I went. (to my regret) - The same stage I have seen Lord of the Dance, Beauty & The Beast, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Miss Saigon... And there I was... watching HSM on a gorgeous big stage! I felt suicidal and not watched it again since.

It made me pull this face =

I like musicals, they're under appreciated by most audiences I think.I've only seen a few musicals on stage since London's quite far away and most theatres near us aren't as good. I've seen Wicked and Phantom of the Opera in theatre which i loved dearly. I've been to see The Crucible too although that's not a musical.

Wicked's probably my favourite musical although I kinda prefered the book (It's darker and way more adult but I do enjoy the musical a lot as a different version). I can't wait for the Wicked Film.

As for movie musicals I really love Sweeney Todd (I've always wanted to see the stage show properly since I've only ever saw performances of songs before), Grease (cheesy but amazing) The producers, Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, Across the Universe, High School musical (it isn't very good but it's a slight guilty pleasure, don't hate meh Fom!) and Labyrinth.

Just to update you on this... I went to the Fortune theatre yesterday and watched Woman in Black... Your right, the first act kinda had me doubting it, it seemed more of a comedy and a rubbish scary play. The second act had my heart racing and my palms were sweaty and I jumped out of my skin at some points... I had goosebumps throughout the whole second half. It was amazing... I want to see it again so much!

Minus being with a crowd of people who screamed at the slightest thing... the atmosphere was amazing... never in my life have i connected with a story so much, wether it be theatre or TV... I was so drawn in, I forgot I was even in the theatre. I loved it so SO much. I recommend it for anyone.
(That final bit when he talks about his son on the donkey then she comes out... OMG, I nearly wet myself!)

I have seen Wicked, I went to go see it in Marchish time. Its an amazing production, the technical part of the show is really clever. The songs are amazing too, I have them all on my itunes. Shame Ive never seen Idina Menzel live as her as Elphaba... she defined that role.
