Default I\'m a Celebrity. Who cares?

I'M A CELEBRITY. WHO CARES?
Here we go again. The new batch of I'm A Celebrity... contestants are in.

They've flooded into Brisbane airport and are currently holed up in a hotel near the outskirts of the outskirts of the Aussie outback, preparing for their five minutes of bug-eating fame.

I love how Dani Behr is so honest about her reasons for signing up: “I've been away and off UK television for so long, so it’s probably the fastest way to come back.” True, and probably the fastest way to disappear after, too.

I’m A Celeb has never been up there with Celebrity Wife Swap or Big Brother, in my view.

I guess I'm a purist when it comes to fly-on-the-wall shows. I like them uninterrupted and gimmick-free, not full of stupid ‘wacky’ music, Ant’n’Dec larking about and forced jeopardy in the guise of snakes with poison taken out writhing around glass tanks.

I never see the point in all those trials. Does anyone? The fact there are ad breaks every ten minutes or so doesn’t help. Not only that, they are sandwiched between “reminders” of premium-rate phone lines we are meant to call – forcing me to flick over to QVC or Ideal World to actually reduce the boredom.

Still, I’m unable to escape the show for so many reasons. Mainly, I watch so much TV that I inevitably stumble across it mid-channel surf, anyway. And also, I write about these crazy fools for a living and it always helps knowing who they are before bumping into them at party afterwardcs.

So. Who are they? Well there’s Behr of course, who was the one who wasn’t Amanda De Cadenet on The Word, then little known WAG Nicola McLean, slightly better known WAG Carly Zucker (aka squashed version of the delightful Cheryl Cole), former police chief Brian Paddick, Star Trek's George Takei, former EastEnders star Joe Swash, ex-Blue member Simon Webbe (who, incidentally, told me last year he would "never, ever" do a show like this) and ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen. Oh, and controversial silver-haired politico Robert Kilroy-Silk. Rantzen and Kilroy? A match made in jungle heaven, surely.

But perhaps the most surprising of them all is tennis champion Martina Navratilova, who claims never to have seen the show or know anything about it.

Surely she doesn’t need the money, so I’m thinking, why on earth do it?

Ah well, guess I’ll just have to watch it to find out.

lol, so true. There are hardly ever many (or any) well known celebs let alone actually decent.

IDK how it gets away with being a prime time reality TV show!?

Yeah it's ok and good sometimes but it's really nothing great.
They do the same things EVERY single year. Actually, every single day. Each task is one of short variety of supposedly 'scary' things just repeated each time with the absolute smallest detail changed.

It can't ever compare to BB for sooo many reasons. The most important one being the core of BB is the actual 'reality TV' that all other reality TV shows are based on, just with a theme as their core.

I'm not watching this year
I really don't want to watch a group of people who pretend to be celebrities go into the jungle and do the exact same things which have been done for the past few series
I think its time to axe the show
