DANNII AND CHERYL GANG UP

RIVAL X Factor gurus Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole are preparing to get down ’n’ dirty… in a bid to stop Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh from winning.

Pop princess Dannii, 37, is almost ready to concede that her over-25s group will not provide the champ.

So, against all the frosty odds, she’s ready to forge a crafty alliance with 25-year-old Cheryl to keep “the lads” from claiming this year’s title.

And it could be a no-holds-barred confrontation.

A source on the ITV1 hit show said: “Although Cheryl and Dannii are not the best of friends they both agree that Cheryl’s Diana Vickers and Alex-andra Burke are the best acts left.

“Dannii would still love to win again and is still very much behind her own acts. But she is well aware the odds are stacked against her.

“If she doesn’t win then she wants to make sure the judge with the best act does.

“And that means teaming up with Cheryl to make sure it happens.

“They are currently cooking up some dirty tricks to beat the boys.”

Dannii first showed her support for one of Cheryl’s acts when she publicly backed Laura White, enraging her own finalist Rachel Hylton.

Rachel sacked Dannii as her mentor, though the pair have since ended their feud.

And – going into last night’s show – neither Dannii nor Rachel really believed the youngster had a chance of winning the £1million recording deal.

Ruth Lorenzo is also a distant outsider having been in the bottom two twice.

With Louis, Simon and Cheryl all voting for their own acts, Dannii could end up being the judge with the biggest say in who makes it to the final.

The insider went on: “To be fair to Dannii, she is not shy about voicing what she really thinks.

“She is a big fan of both Diana and Alexandra and is determined someone doesn’t go before they should.

“As long as it doesn’t mean voting off her own act, she is prepared to do anything she can to help Cheryl out.”

Alexandra, 20, Diana, 17, and Eoghan Quigg were the favourites going into last night’s show.

It has been claimed that Simon doesn’t want Alexandra to win as she would be direct competition for former winner Leona Lewis.

But, with the show already dogged by controversy over claims of tactical voting by the male judges, Dannii and Cheryl can’t just sit back and let them hold all the cards.

The insider added: “Dannii is a big fan of both Eoghan and JLS but she doesn’t think they have the star quality of Diana and Alexandra.

“She has taken a lot of stick from Louis and Simon this year so she will have no qualms about voting off their acts and handing the crown to Cheryl.”
