A man convicted of killing UK student Meredith Kercher has refused to answer questions at the trial in Italy of two further suspects.

Ivorian Rudy Guede exercised his right under Italian law not to answer, having been convicted. He was jailed for 30 years last October, but is appealing.

Italian Raffaele Sollecito, 24, and his ex-girlfriend, American Amanda Knox, 21, deny the 2007 murder in Perugia.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Ms Kercher was killed in a violent sex attack.

Guede, who has admitted being in the house at the time of the murder but denied any wrongdoing, did not look at the defendants when he took the stand on Saturday.

Ms Kercher, a Leeds University student from Coulsdon in south London, had been studying and living in the Umbrian university town of Perugia when she was killed on 1 November 2007.

She shared a house with Ms Knox, who was on a student exchange from Seattle's University of Washington.

Ms Kercher's body was discovered half-naked in the bedroom of the house on 2 November. Her throat had been cut.

Prosecutors maintain there is DNA evidence on a knife and on Miss Kercher's bra allegedly linking Mr Sollecito to her death.
