I Love Niamh’s Brick
|
Yesterday i rang in sick, I'd been throwing up, had a tight chest, etc and don't know why.
I rang my boss to say that I couldn't make it into work. Rather than be sympathetic he gave me 20 questions such as was I drinking the night before, why I was ill, etc etc and you could tell he was not believing I was genuinely ill. One, I'm ill, those questions can wait till I come back to work, I was in no mood to have a twenty min convo over phone with him. and two, how the hell dare he imply I'm skivving, when I work my arse of there, do about 50 hours a week, never call in sick and still was in work on Sunday when I found out my uncle died?? It really riled me that he was so rude and sarcastic on the phone. Aggggggggggggjhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sorry, had to get this off my chest. But does anyone else find this with their employer when they ring in sick? |

Nah

I always provide with a paper from the doctor so the boss can't tell me anything wrong.

Oh god one of our managers is like that, and even when he believes you are ill, he still doesn't think it's bad enough for you to be off work. He once gave an employee WHO WORKS WITH FOOD hell for calling in sick with gastro-enteritis FFS!

maybe you shouldnt ring and just let your friend ring for you.
that way you dont get all the questions while youre sick also maybe they dont believe you because of all the ******* that pretend. |

its because so many others pull sickies for silly reasons.
I once phoned in saying i couldn't come in because I had just learned that my dog had died at the vets,.. I was in tears on the phone. I think they might have known that was genuine! |

Speaking as an ex boss. Staff take the piss if they think you are a soft touch. Who here has never phoned in sick when they are ok to work? I know I have.
The way I worked it was that I expected honesty. If you were so hungover from a night out, tell me. Fine. Have the day off. It happens. What use would a hung over stinking of beer worker be anyway. But, don't make a habbit of it and expect the favour to be called in at some point. I need you to work late or on a sunday, I would expect you to play fair. It worked well. Never get someone to call in sick for you. Even if you are on the operating table having your spleen removed, you should make the call. |

If you aren't off sick too often they will usually believe you, at least that's the way it has worked for me over the years.

When my uncle died, they told me I didn't need to come in and they're sort everything out.I got a call a few days later and they were like 'Where the hell are you,you have to ring in if you're sick' I was so pissed off. |

This is why I'm not cut out for work and will probably never get a proper job (well office type or whatever anyway). I hate people having power over me
