Porn for obvious reasons.

I don't think that my parents really wanted me to pay any attention to the news until I hit my teens.

They literally didn't know or particularly care what I was doing from about the age of 9 onwards. Sad eh.

With my own kids, aside from actual porn (which I don't think anyone should watch at any age, but that's another debate), I base it more on what I think will upset or scare them than some arbitrary limit. e.g. I wouldn't have had an issue with my eldest watching horror etc. at 12 BUT it clearly still properly scared her/gave her nightmares at that age. She's 14 now and I have no issue with her watching/playing whatever she wants to watch or play.

For her own part these days, she's not bothered by horror/gore/violence any more (she went through an anime/Korean Zombies phase and like all of us is thoroughly desensitized ) but she is very uncomfortable with even minor "romantic" scenes. And I mean to an extreme ... she was cringing her head off watching "Elemental" in the cinema with us, becuase there were kissing scenes, hahaha.

TBF I don't know if she's bothered by them in general, or just embarrassed/cringing at them when parents are around... which would be pretty normal for a teen.

The only media in my house growing up was 2 channels, then 3 then 4 and the radio, so not much room for viewing anything inappropriate

None. I came from an age where the family all watched TV at night so the only hazard was if a "dirty bit" came on which was awful for everyone

When I was a kid I remember being mortified because everyone was allowed to watch the miniseries "V" and I wasn't and also I wasn't allowed to watch The Young Ones. My mum was weird though as I remember watching some pretty heavy horrors as a kid. I think the stuff I wasn't allowed to watch was more that she didn't want to watch it and we only had one TV at that time.

Agree with the fact that I think as a parent you know what's appropriate for your kids. My son is nearly 13 and is an absolute horror film obsessive. He has never been particularly scared (other than during jump scares) and so I have no problem with him watching them. He is far more perturbed and anxious over the news (particularly when the pandemic was at its height) as he knows films are made up and the news is pretty grim and real.

To be fair though I think the pandemic desensitised everyone to the news - no one gives a **** what's in the news these days. They're like "Russia is threatening to nuke London and also Aliens might be real" and everyone is like "Whatever is there anything new on Netflix?" .

Tbf I'm with her on heavy Romances being awkward to watch a lot of the time.

That's actually kind of similar to my childhood, until I hit the age of 13 anyway.
