Already groups against them getting roads closed on Sunday. ![]() BBC News Text: [The Guardian reports that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is set to use the Conservative Party Conference, which gets underway on Sunday, to set out a series of policies intended to appeal to car owners. The measures would include restrictions on the power of English councils to introduce 20mph speed zones and limits on the number of hours a day that car traffic is banned from bus lanes.] ![]() Last edited by arista; 04-10-2023 at 06:26 PM. |

Waste of time are these party conferences as they are held now.
Just nothing of note in any of them. Unless some real battle or controversial issue comes about. Boring people to death is more the order of the day in the conferences. Even Labour doesn't provide any argumentative entertainment anymore. |

[The boss of Iceland supermarkets, who had
hoped to become a Conservative MP, has quit the party, labelling it "out of touch". The attack from Richard Walker came on the eve of the annual Conservative conference, as delegates gathered in Manchester. Mr Walker told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg that the party was losing touch with business and consumers. The Conservatives declined to comment on the record.] Yes , Walker has been saying this for years nothing new. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66972357 Last edited by arista; 01-10-2023 at 01:38 AM. |

I'm pleased Richard Walker has seen sense.
He's still always tried to support the Cons in interviews, and wanted to stand as a Con MP. Yet he's seeing them move away from just about all that is right, decent and even sincerely meant. Good luck to him. Maybe if they really lose heavily the next election, they'll be shaken into becoming again the Party he hoped and thought they were. |
