X Factor Alexandra's heartache for mum who is critically ill with kidney disease

The mother of The X Factor semi-finalist Alexandra Burke has spoken for the first time about her battle against kidney disease.

Former soul singer Melissa Bell is critically ill as she desperately waits for a kidney and a pancreas donor.

Alexandra, 20, reached the semi-finals of the reality talent show last Saturday and is the favourite to win.

But the Islington-born starlet has secretly been worried sick about her mother's deteriorating health.

Ms Bell, 44, former lead singer of Soul II Soul, said: 'I don't have any kidneys at all right now...I get really tired.'

But she said seeing her daughter's success has kept her strong. 'Alex doing so well is the perfect tonic for me.'

Im sorry to hear that about Alex`s mum,but at least Alex hasn`t used her mums illness to rake in the sympathy vote like a certain ex contestant *cough daniel cough!)
For someone who is obviously going througha very stressful time atm she always appears enthusiastic and upbeat in her interviews,a good quality in a celebrity and performer.Havign the x factor isn`t just about peforming ,its about personality and standing out and Alexandera is so positive which can only be a good thing.

You do realize that the contestants are told what to say on their vt's don't you? And it's his life, the others all talk about things that have happened in their life... especially Rachel.
