Has the compact disc died because of iTunes, Limewire etc.. & if yes, do you think it will ever come back?

I still buy CD's but I never play them. All my music is played on iTunes or YouTube/Last.FM if I'm on another computer.

I don't think they've died. If they had, there wouldn't be any more made. Some people still buy CD's, it could be for party's or something, but there are loads of people who still buy them.
If the question was; do i think that sales have decreased since the itunes and Limewire came along, the anser would be yes. |

No not at all. And now in Japan they are making better than 24bit CD BluSpec Disc Sony CD and Super High Material JVC/Universal CD. Also DT5.1 disc SACD 5.1 discs and DVDA 5.1 discs all can not be downloaded. So the youth can have poor quality MP3 because they are pissed half the time. But Adults Have CD's. Sign Of The Times. |

It said in 1 newspaer that they did not count as they only contributed 4% to the charts. I hated Woolworths when they diched them I bet that is why the have died lke CD singles |

I haven't bought any CD's since 2003. I discovered e-Mule and all that stuff to get them free.
It hasn't died out yet because people still buy them but it's heading in this direction, definitely. |

Singles do count.
That's why there is a download chart. If CD's didn't count there would be no point in a download chart. |

I play CDs and Vynil everyday. I also use iTunes. I hate illegal downloads, more respect to the artist/band you love is to buy their music to help keep them around for longer. I love buying CDs and looking at the artwork inside the cases. You get what you pay for. |

I think so, although CDs still prove popular with the older generation.
Personally, I usually only download now, although if I am buying a album sometimes I will get it in a CD form from Play.com as it works out cheaper, and then upload to my PC. But I do like CD's; it seems a lot more funner playing a new CD than download! :S |

When I buy a new CD I just sit in my room and listen to it all. Its more exciting getting to know the album. The CD needs to be more popular before the new download generation kills it off. |

They're overshadowed by digital downloads, sure, but for example, it's easier to play a CD in a car than getting a digital download onto an iPod, then getting an iPod adapter type thing for your car - why would you bother when you can stick the CD in? So until they find an easier way to do without the CD in that particular scenario, I refuse to accept CDs have died out.

I still buy CD and vinyl. As others have said, I like the phyiscal product. A download has no value to me. If a mate came in to the pub with a bag from a record shop I would ask what they had got and if I could have a nose. I am yet to ask if I can have a look at someone's digital file.
My latest buy was a vinyl album by Eddy Grant from a charity shop. 50P. Bargin. Including the class "Do you feel my love" |
