Default Talk about bad luck :(

Some of you might remember earlier this year my house got burgled while I was out one night, where they took phone/laptop/passport and anything else they could take. I couldn't claim insurance on it all and was out of pocket for a lot of money.

Well since then I've moved house, to a more residential area (right next to a school too) and woke up this morning to find the back door open, and the house been robbed. They stole my xbox360+accessories and my really expensive laptop. Total estimate of stuff lost is £2000. The sick thing is we were all sleeping in the house, and my room is next to the lounge (where my laptop and xbox were). I heard a bang in the night but just assumed it was one of my housemates -- I guess it wasnt

They also took the power cord of my TV which was very weird

Forensics came and found a fingerprint on the TV screen, which is unlikely to be mine as its a plasma, and with plasmas you must never touch the screen.... so whenever I've moved the tv before I use it by the edges. Police said the fingerprint on the screen most likely is the robbers. Oxford police said they are currently trying to find a robber who's been targeting houses around this area lately, and this fingerprint could be a big break.

Fortunately (if that can be the case) a few days ago I wanted to play on the Wii while house mates were watching TV, so I moved it into my room -- usually it's kept right next to the xbox. So lucky they didn't get that!

Now I just have to go through the rigorous process of trying to claim off the insurance... I'm sure they aren't going to be happy having to pay out for the 2nd time this year

The annoying thing now is the robbers have been in my house, they have seen whats in the lounge that they didn't take (because they couldn't carry it), but perhaps could over Xmas when it's obvious that students go home they could strike again knowing they have a lot of time, and could come with more than 1 person. Theres my massive 52" plasma, huge surround sound speaker system, the stereo connected to it all and loads of other electrical items. So I guess I'm going to have to find a place to hide them all :/

ps. I'm already planning a home-alone style, booby trapping of my house over xmas. I'm no McCauley Culkin, but I'm sure I can rig some stuff together lol. joke of course.... or maybe not

I'm planning on going around the 2nd hand computer shops and pawn shops in the next few days to see if anyones tried to flog any of my stuff.

Sucks right

- Mark

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, if they want a laptop and XBox 360 then they should work for it instead of targeting inicent people like you. I hope that the police manage to find the robbers and give them what they deserve.

That’s horrible, the robbers probably don’t have jobs and instead of working to get someone’s Christmas presents they have stole an Xbox 360 and a laptop for someone for Christmas. I hate robbers, if they stole my wii I would hunt them down and cut their hands off

Our residence block was burgled a few weeks ago and they only caught him cos he came to police attention another way and when they searched his house they found thousands of stolen items of which they traced back to my friend (cos he'd stole her phone).

That's such a shame and really is harsh luck, with it being the second time in the year. I really hope you manage to sort everything out. And, I suppose, on the bright side, no one was harmed or anything - in some cases if a person living in the house gets in the way, they are attacked. That was a recent case, and it happened quite near where I live.

The logic behind your house perhaps being burgled over Christmas is perhaps quite good, but it's good in a way that you've thought of that. It really is a pain, but I hope above all the burglar(s) get caught - it may take a while, but as long as it happens eventually.

Sorry to hear about this Mark. People like this annoy me so much. They don't care about the affect it has on people. It is not just the fact that they have taken material things, but moreso that they have been in your property. God knows what may have happened should you have got up and encountered them. And it is always more prolific in the run up to Christmas. Hope you get things sorted soon enough.

That is arse mate. Sorry to hear about it. Had me sat nav nicked the other day.
I was in a shop for a few moments so I put it in my glove box. I came out the shop to see the scabby bastard leaning through my now smashed passenger side window. I gave chase but he got away. (I am not as fast as I used to be.)

I really would think about putting your stuff in secure storage if you are going to be away for any length of time. A pain, but they now know what you have and may be looking to see if you go away. Better safe than sorry.

Just on a side note.

"and with plasmas you must never touch the screen"

That is actually a myth. Yes they are more delicate that an old style CRT tv, but touching the screen will do absolutely no damage what so ever.

There are potential dangers everywhere, but the one place you think is your own, where you'll always feel safe is your home.

The closest thing to be associated with danger most people seem to think is household accidents.

But to think some people have the nerve to just come in and take things? it's just ridiculous.

The only thing keeping most people safe is the low probability of the amount of burglars targetting any of the millions of houses nationwide on that night, just happening to come to yours >_<
