I'm A Celebrity evictee John Burton Race has revealed show bosses concealed footage which showed Marc and Cerys DID enjoy steamy clinches together in the jungle.

The temperamental chef said the pair sneaked away from the group and the cameras, for what they thought were secret liaisons.

But it was apparent to the rest of the jungle contestants exactly what they were up to.

John said: There were times when the pair disappeared off together. I have to say that.

"I know what I know. You can guess the rest. We are all grown men and women and know what the game is."

He said: "There are things the viewers wouldn't have seen or heard in there.

"Relationships are formed."

Burton Race who has had his fair share of relationship troubles after his own affair with girlfriend Suzy caused the break-up of his marriage wished the pair well.

He said: "I liked both of them.

"Marc tried to make everyone feel comfortable in the camp. "He was really charming. And Cerys is a one-off. She is very special and generous. She is just beautiful."

However, yesterday, relatives of Cerys warned her not to rush things with the former EastEnders actor, after accusations flew about Bannerman's violent past.

She has joked that it is the "biggest love story since Romeo and Juliet".

And it seems that just like in the story of the star-crossed lovers, there will be no happy ending to the jungle romance of pop star Cerys Matthews and soap actor Marc Bannerman.

The pair spent 11 days together on ITV's I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!, captivating viewers with their obvious chemistry.

But while the Catatonia singer is single after a recent messy divorce, Bannerman had a girlfriend - actress Sarah Matravers - when he went into the jungle.

After his less-than-gallant public displays of affection for his fellow contestant led to him being voted out, he was promptly dumped by Miss Matravers too.

She has now claimed she was viciously beaten by the former EastEnders actor during a stormy relationship.

The singer's brother Richard issued a public plea to her, saying: "Please don't rush this. Things are different in the real world than in the jungle."

He added: "I can see Cerys is terrified and lost. She doesn't know what's going on. She has fallen for Marc and is in an incredibly vulnerable place.

"We're all praying she doesn't get hurt again - it's always in the back of our minds that it will send her over the edge. Her divorce is still so raw and hit her hard. It's very difficult to watch her being hurt all over again."

Miss Matthews, a self-confessed former heroin addict, ended her marriage to music producer Seth Riddle last month.

Her brother told The People: "It's a bit of a shock that this thing with Marc has happened actually. She has been through a terrible time and I don't want her to have another one."

While Miss Matthews carried on with life in the jungle - blissfully unaware of the media storm - Miss Matravers, 33, was telling another tabloid how Bannerman had beaten her.

'I was very, very scared,' the Sunday Mirror reported her as saying. "I remember thinking, 'He's a bloke, he shouldn't be doing this to me'. I had bruises where he slapped me."

She said she was so terrified during the incident that she stuck her arm through a window pane, believing it was the only way to stop him beating her.

"I have no idea how long the fight lasted. There was a bruise on my back and I had ten stitches to my arm so it was pretty nasty."

Bannerman, 34, denied the assault at the time, and prosecutors dropped the charges. He could not be reached for comment last night.

Miss Matravers spoke out about her ordeal - which happened at their home last February - after watching in disbelief as her lover flirted with the 36-year-old singer.

"I was shouting at him, 'Are you in love with Cerys? Yes or no, yes or no?'

"He couldn't seem to answer. He just said, 'I don't know' and 'Sorry' over and over again. He didn't really make anything clearer to me, I'm absolutely devastated.

"He tried to defend himself saying he didn't do anything 'overly physical' with Cerys. But to see him saying he was in love with her on TV, that's heartbreaking.

"I told him it was over. I said if he can't make a decision, then I'll make a decision for him. That's it. He didn't say much."

On last night's show Miss Matthews still appeared to be smitten with Bannerman, who has written her a love letter promising he will come back to Australia.

She was buoyant about the prospect of him returning "like a knight" to rekindle their romance.

In a conversation with interior designer Anna Ryder Richardson, the pair joked of it as the "biggest love story since Romeo and Juliet".

She said later: "I didn't expect it to turn out the way it has. I didn't think that you could get so intense in such a short amount of time with anybody."

Then she whispered excitedly: "He likes children."

Speaking to camera, she then pleaded with the public to let her stay in the show until Bannerman, who has been in London trying to sort out his shattered love life, returns for her.

Jungle bosses censored X-rated footage of love-rat Marc Bannerman getting sexually aroused by Cerys Matthews.

The former EastEnders actor, 34, got an erection just thinking about being together with the sexy Catatonia singer.

IĚm A Celebrity producers decided to protect his former girlfriend Sarah Matravers from any more embarrassment and not show the clip.

But yesterday cheeky Cerys, 38, blabbed about his big secret to the other campers.

They were discussing how the male contestants had not been feeling randy.

And Cerys stunned them with the revelation about Marc. She blurted out: "Marc did. He told me. That's what he said."

The couple stunned their camp rivals by slipping away from the group to be alone.

And Cerys's revelation proves there was more than just harmless flirting going on in the outback.

Her sensational confession proves how much Marc – who has now been dumped by Sarah over his flirty antics – has fallen for Cerys.

But Cerys will be left heart-broken because Marc decided not to fly back to Australia to be with her when she finally leaves the jungle.

Marc, who played Gianni Di Marco in EastEnders, had vowed to be waiting for her when she left the jungle.

He flew home last week after he became the first celeb to get the boot, and last night telly chiefs said he will stay in London.

Instead he is recording a video message for her.

A show source said: "Marc won't be there for Cerys. She will be left wondering what the hell has gone on.

"She's already feeling guilty as hell over what happened and has sussed that Marc's relationship with Sarah is over.

"The one thing she was counting on was having him there for support when she leaves the show.

"If Marc isn't there, it will mean either he doesn't want to be with her any more or he fears the whole jungle romance will become a circus like Peter and Jordan."

But this will come as a blessing for Cerys's family, who have been shocked by her romance with Marc.

Her brother Richard, 35, said their parents have been so angry about the antics that they have refused to watch.

He said: "The TV was switched off about a week ago. They have gone on holiday to Portugal just to forget about it."
