I've said it in here before but we need to take it more seriously. Having Mel Giedroyc run around for an hour interviewing musical dullards like Mollie King whilst making crude jokes and allowing Mans Zelmerlow to flex his ego a bit more is just doing nothing for our musical reputation.
We distance our pop from Europe because we see it as beneath us, we just stick to a few big cities whenever our artists go out on tours (Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Rome, nowhere else). We need a complete attitude overhaul but it won't happen because we're little Britain and we find it easier to just throw our dummy out of the pram and say "it must be Europe that's in the wrong". Nah. We just send crap that even we don't want to listen to. |

Adele would probably be awesome but she'd never do it and I can't think of anyone who would.

I don't think we need to send someone of the calibre of Adele, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, etc because they're all already hugely successful. Same reason you don't get Sweden sending Zara Larsson and Robyn, or Norway sending Sigrid.
But I think if the BBC are going to continue to hold the threshold on who we send, then tying it in with the annual "BBC Sound of...." lists they come up with would be a great gateway for the pop musicians we are supposedly so keen to promote. The only problem here is that "Sound Of..." also promotes other countries' acts (Billie Eilish, Sigrid, ROSALIA, ALMA in the past 2 years). If burgeoning popstars turn it down and refuse to perform for 200+ million potential listeners then that's their problem. I just wonder if we even offer the likes of recent British popstars like RAYE, Charli XCX, Jack Garratt, Rag n Bone Man, Dua Lipa, Stefflon Don etc. the chance? Or just take the easy route and assemble some nobodies that were in a musical once. |

Norway lost and they’re storming the British charts, Eurovision is the biggest music audience in the world, it’s a false economy to refuse doing it

I remember when we nearly sent Rita Ora but she didn’t want to do it in fear of it ruining her career and she didn’t want to end up on Splash
