A gang of celebrity photographers caught pop brat Britney Spears apparently stealing a lighter from a gas station convenience store, the Web site TMZ.com reported.

The site posted a 41-second video of Brit paying for gum at a North Hollywood service station after spending most of the day driving the paparazzi around in circles - including one episode in which she drove her white sports car the wrong way and nearly caused several accidents.

After paying for the gum, she doubled back and snatched a lighter from a display case.

As she climbed into her car, she said, "I stole something. Oh, I'm bad. Ohhhhhhh!"

As much as I like her, this just proves she wants attention. Why would she steal a lighter if shes got all that money to pay for it. Shes went seriously down in my estimations and you fdont "HAVE TO LOVE HER" atall. Its pathetic IMO

If you actually watch it she placed some money down on the counter like a second after the video started.

Confirmed: Britney didn't steal the lighter

It was pointed out to me by fans that if you turn up the volume when you watch the video of Britney reportedly stealing a lighter at a gas sation, you can clearly hear the clerk tell her she forgot her ligther. So she goes back and grabs one just before playing with the paparazzi, who of course made a twisted story out of this. Watch it for yourself (and listen carefully) here!
