Default How to stop insect bites and stings ruining hot bank holiday weekend

Quote:

don't swat

"to avoid stings from bees and wasps, try to avoid attracting them to your location; keep food and drink covered and if they do appear in numbers consider moving somewhere else.

"try not to swat at them – it may turn them into defensive mode and make them more likely to sting."

despite this, you may be one those people who, no matter what you do, you're the equivalent of mozzie food.

keep calm

he adds: "if you have been stung then step one is simple - be somewhere else - move away calmly in case there are other insects around.

"honeybees and wasps produce a pheromone - a chemical “smell” - that attracts others of the same species to join in the stinging party, so moving somewhere, ideally inside, is a good strategy."

and when it comes to directly treating the sting, he says you need your bank card (yep!) and some sting cream to hand.

He says: "if it is a honeybee sting then the stinger might still be in your skin – gently remove it by scraping with a credit card or something similar.

"if you can, then taking an antihistamine is a good idea for a sting, as is applying some topical “sting and bite” cream. Ice can also work to relieve the pain.

And when the inevitable does happen most people run around frantically, start screaming or swatting the culprit.

Was sat on the beach yesterday and wasps kept coming for us. One landed on my 2 year olds face was trying to sting his eye and his ear I had to keep swatting it away(bearing in mind I have a massive fear of wasps) so after about half an hour trying to relax on the beach we just had to leave. Evil evil buggers!!!!!!!

How do you know it was trying to sting his eye and ear? Did it tell you?

How many times has your boyfriend said
"Why are we always talking 'bout her?"

It was flying round the corner of his eye and landing on his ear bending it's body in the stinging position and I wasn't going to chance it. He might be allergic!

Bees and wasps are attracted to sugar and sticky things
