When someone from work or a friend gives you a gift, do you put it under the tree and wait or do you rip it open once they are out of sight

I have opened everything so far I got a hamper delivered so I opened that inadvertently as I had thought I had ordered something and forgotton ..then a few gifts from friends all opened as soon as they were out of sight

Depends on the circumstances.
We have already exchanged and opened all gifts from our son and his wife, after having early Xmas day due to her flying back to the states yesterday.
No presents to be opened Xmas day, no Xmas dinner on the 25th either.
Sunday 29th is our big official Xmas day, when we have Xmas dinner and stockings, presents etc, daughter and partner arrive on the 27th.
