Default why do you tip some workers but not others

I hear on here that members tip workers like taxi takeaway drivers do you tip shop workers on the doctor

Why is it ok to tip some but not others no need to tip

Always tip your bookie Michael. I mean I know you can't online but if you're ever in a shop...

... ... they're not paid enough to not favour a big tipper .

I tip the last homeless person I see before I jump on a train or bus after a day out...

They get all my loose change.

Three criterias for me.

1. Efficiency at their job
2. Friendliness
3. If they're hot.

Generally the idea of tipping is to boost the earnings of low paid workers, given GPs earn over 100k I don’t think they fall into this category

Normally tipping is not expected in Finland and a service charge is added in hotels and restaurants. Finnish people do tip only if they wish to appreciate good service or delicious food. It is not obligatory to give a tip to the taxi drivers.

I tip my postman and window cleaner at Christmas, used to tip the bin men but the Council cracked down on it so they don’t collect now

It is a bit odd when you know people are getting paid, but it's customary to tip for some services, but not others.

A lot of times when I'm in shops and I'm due back a few pence, I usually say keep the change. Does that count as tipping?

I kind of do this....most smaller shops usually have a charity box on the counter so I always tell them to put my change in the tin.

I tip in restaurants, hairdressers etc

I tip my barber because they do a good job and I’ve been going there for years. I tip at restaurants if they are polite, friendly, good customer service etc.

I remember when on holiday in Ibiza a few years ago, we was in a small shop and I tipped the lady behind the counter, she got well excited and started ringing this bell and gave me and my friends a free shot each of our choice, she even had one herself

i very rarely tip. If i'm in a restaurant that doesn't include a service charge, i may tip for exceptional food/service. If i'm abroad if the people are relying on tips for a wage then i will tip
