Warnings as a compromise are better than editing and meddling.

It's pathetic that either are happening, and anyone who would be offended by an ancient TV show probably should book themselves into a rubber room BUT does a warning that lasts a few seconds before the show or film starts hurt anyone?

These “product of their time” things are more disclaimers than warnings. It’s not about people not knowing what to expect from an old show, it’s about the broadcasters protecting themselves from liability or sanction.

It’s like nuts having a “this product may contain nuts” warning on the back. Or a clothes iron with “warning: product becomes extremely hot during use”.

Of course everyone knows these things, it’s to protect from disingenuous people who would claim they had no idea, and would try to sue Russell Hobbs because they burned themselves on their iron.

Well yyyyeeeaaaaahhh ... But someone burning themselves on an iron or going into anaphylaxis, these things pale into comparison next to ...... Someone's feelings being hurt

When you have the boxset like me, you don't get any warnings. DVD boxsets don't see you as a fragile person who can't control their emotions because they heard some words.

Disclaimers happen all the time, it's just there to let people know it's an old TV show or movie ,and that way of talking or the attitudes/ prejudices are outdated but of their time.

Wait until they start giving warnings about homosexual content and transsexual content, so they don't offend the religious types.

It'll be some kind of phobic then.
