A horrible situation that had a happy outcome at the end. Is there any stories that you guys can think of that had a terrible scenario, but a happy ending for the person/creature involved?

it's probably halved the life expectancy of the dog, so it's not all wonderful. Also, it shouldnt have been allowed to get in such a dreadful state in the first place, and the owners, since they are clearly known, should be prosecuted
