Default Coventry : Amazon UK Giant Warehouse, Workers on Strike

They were offered a 50pence increase
an hour,
an insult to them.

This is a first
for the UK

From things I've heard from former staff it's NOT a good company.

It's unskilled labour so harder to justify big wage increases - but I've heard the conditions and workers rights are horrendous. There's a good case for either much better pay or vastly improved conditions and contracts.

Working for an evil megacorp like Amazon, especially when you have an "unskilled" job which is easily replaced (possibly by robots) then threatening to walk won't touch the higher-ups. Not saying they should just suck it up, **** Amazon, but they have next to no cards to play.

i use them a lot, but i still check alternative online stores for a cheaper deal and go with that if appropriate

It's up to consumers to make the effort if they want to save a few quid

[Members of the union speak to staff
as they try to convince them not to
cross the line and to go into work]

Good to see so many Staff going into to work

[The GMB union said its members in Coventry
would now take further industrial action
on 28 February,
2 March and
between 13-17 March.

It marked an escalation in their pay fight,
which began with a
24-hour strike last month - the first
official walkout to hit the US tech firm's
operations in the UK.]
