Thumbs up Aldi named cheapest UK supermarket

Aldi has yet again been named the cheapest UK supermarket, marking the
supermarket’s tenth consecutive win.

According to recent data from consumer watchdog Which?, a basket of 41
grocery items at Aldi cost £72.54 on average across the month, compared with
£92.55 at Waitrose and £72.79 at Lidl.

Sainsbury’s was third cheapest at £80.27, then Tesco with £81.58, which was
followed by Asda and Morrisons at £81.88 and £83.63, respectively.

Earlier this year, German discounter Aldi was named the cheapest supermarket
for 2022.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “Now, more than
ever, our focus remains on keeping prices low and quality high. This is the
tenth month in a row we have been named as the UK’s cheapest
supermarket, and we couldn’t be more delighted. In the face of an ongoing
cost-of-living crisis, we’re proud that our customers can save over £20 on
basket spend by shopping with Aldi.”

And all it took was having two staff members on shift at a time selling half-rancid meat from dirty shelves. Who would have thought it could be so simple?

I've had a problem with my local Iceland store for a long time. They have price labels saying for example buy 3 for £10.00 and save £1.25.

But when you get to the till you pay £11.25.

On at least two occasions the person on the till has given me the receipt and I've seen I have been overcharged and then time is spent giving me a refund.

I went in this morning and saw a £4.00 for 2 offer and the saving was £1.50.

It was busy so I didn't have time to check my receipt but outside I noticed I had been charged £5.50.

I had to go back in and the manager is very arrogant and when I told her they should sort out their prices, immediately as I walked away I heard her laugh. I turned my head round and she and a colleague were laughing. No respect for customers.

I still prefer Lidl. It's local to me and has some products from Italy as well.

M & S staffing levels have fallen dramatically, you are lucky to find someone behind the till now, its all about self service

That's why I go to self service tills. When something is wrong I know immediately.
Today I bought fish that's was down to one pound.
But on the till it rang 2.50.
When I told them they corrected it.

Lidl is OK other than the "fresh" meat.
