Default Big Brother UK to end in 2010!! :(

OMG! Read this!

Quote:
Insiders at Channel 4 have informed bbspy that they will not be renewing Big Brother when its current contract runs out in 2010.

The UK version of Big Brother is currently contracted to run until 2010, which would see the 11th main series of the show. However, a source at broadcaster Channel 4 has revealed to us that they are 75% sure that they will not renew Big Brother following the end of this contract.

Our source told us: “Big Brother has been a phenomenon for us. It’s been one of our most popular programmes of all time. However, we feel that when our current contract with Endemol to air the show ends in 2010, the general public will have had enough of the show and the format will be pretty tired.”

“Bosses seem very adamant that Channel 4 begins considering cutting ties with the programme.”

We will bring you more on this as we get it.

Stick with bbspy!
Sorce: bbspy

Looks like our summer is going to be that little bit shorter now

I really would not be too sure. Broadcasters do not come to a decision to axe the show two years before the contract terminates, no show is axed with a sweep clean decision like that reports suggests.

Pretty much like ITV's Bad Girls, each year near the end of the series ITV bosses were admatant the show was a flop and that it would end, but they just kept recommissioning the show under the perusasion of the production company.

So I don't think that report is enough for us to be sure about the future of Big Brother.

I know but the thing is it also doesn't mention the show being a flop, just "Big Brother has been a phenomenon for us. It’s been one of our most popular programmes of all time. However, we feel that when our current contract with Endemol to air the show ends in 2010, the general public will have had enough of the show and the format will be pretty tired.”

If C4 don't renew Big Brother I am sure ITV or some other channel would pick it up.

If every series of BB in the future was successful and was attracting high ratings then i'm sure C4 would renew it.

Thinking about it I would be happy for the show to end in 2010 if there isn't a major format change because the show is going to get boring.

Same. I'd rather have it left to rest half decent rather than past dried up. Theres no way it could ever get past a 14th series anyway probably. Thats nearly more than the Simpsons and even it's DVD sales are struggling atm!

Looking back, CBB4 seemed to be the last perfect series for me. BB7 was on of, maybe struggling into my top 7 of 14? The rest were just dreadful or else didn't get enough publicity.

And oh God at the thought of BB on ITV!

it will only get axed if the next 3 series (9, 10 &11) are a flop if the ratings pick up they would be stupid to axe it

BB on ITV would be really bad. I wouldn't be surprised if they got it though, they were linked with the show last year and ITV have made it clear their number one objective is to inrease the number of 16 - 34 audience. I think if they could buy BB now they would.

I would like to see the show end in 2010 then bounce back 5 to 10 years later. It's only going to end if it doesn't get good ratings because while it's still getting C4 huge ratings it's not going to end.

I doubt they'd give 3 more chances. They've already kinda wasted 2 anyway: CBB5, BB8. I'd say we're facing BBAU's problem. If this series isn't right we're on our way out.

The only way to claw back ratings is to do a BB5/6 again. Not neccisarily 'Evil' or 'Unlucky 13' but something new and recognisable at the smae time aka not a unrecognisable change.

I never really trust these fansite sort of website like bbspy, bbvision, inside bb, ect. It is probaly just a rumor not that I would mind too much becuase like you guys said it would be ashame to leave on a bad note. It was funny the other day I went to the last page in the BB3 section and people were posting like "I doubt we'll ever have a BB4 were lucky to have a BB3!"

This is what they were saying after BB4, and the contract was continually renewed, I would doubt that it's going anywhere anytime soon. Remember, C4 makes a ton of money off of Big Brother.

Well I think it's kinda a good idea because the producers are right, the show will be quite tired. It may be better I think.
