Honestly the possibility of a bit of drama/a kick-off is just about the only redeeming feature of working in retail. I'd say that I accept my privilege as a large and still youthful male there with it being less directly intimidating at the time I had to deal with it HOWEVER would also caveat that over my 10 years of retail service I worked with plenty of people of all descriptions who would have agreed. I worked with a lady in her 60's who absolutely loved a little ruckus in the shop .

And supermarkets tend to have security, all we had was an ancient, bashed up landline phone to performatively pick up and pretend to call the police on .
