A mysterious, pink glow appeared in the night sky over a city in Central Texas over the weekend, confusing locals who thought it might be alien visitors, the northern lights, or even a gender reveal party gone wrong. On Sunday, several Temple locals took to social media to report what appeared to be vibrant, neon pink clouds shining among clouds above the city. However, the illumination wasn't shining down from the heavens at all but rather originated from a not-so-scary source on the ground. Oh, and it's also not really pink.

What residents perceived as a pink-hued light is likely a combination of blue and red light emanating from the greenhouse at Revol Greens, a lettuce farm in Temple. The red and blue lighting are specifically designed to help the company's lettuces thrive, according to Revol Greens. The farm recently experienced a malfunction with the facility's blackout shades it uses at night, allowing the light to escape, according to a report from KWTX. "Those blackout shades serve multiple purposes for our team, from keeping the light in, to acting as a thermal blanket that helps our growing team better control the climate," Tom Thompson, Revol Greens CRO, told the outlet.

While Revol Greens try to use 90 percent sunlight, the company has to rely on LED lights to continue plant growth and production once the Sun goes down. Many similar facilities use the lights, which experts said does not create light pollution. Thompson told KWTX the company does not plan to illuminate the night again. "We regularly calibrate these shades, and, now that the facility is fully up and running, hope to not have any more false alarms of visitors from another world," Thompson said.

It's not the first time the pink sky has been spotted over Temple. Back in March, the rose-colored light appeared over the city when the blackout blinds at the greenhouse briefly parted. The glow from the facility was also previously seen by passersby in November 2023.

Funnily enough I looked out my back room bedroom window last night and saw something glowing in the dark, pulsating white in my neighbour's back garden, like a Christmas tree. Very bizarre. It wasn't there the other night and I don't know what purpose it was serving.
I had a funny thought it was alien of some sort.

Hmm, when I was on a train at night once I saw a literal corona of light pollution over a town/city we passed. It looked yellow/white but I assume it's something similar.
