Default An Extinct animal will be revived by 2028

Its been confirmed that there is great expectation that at least 1 of 3 extinct animals will be brought back following a De-Extinction process.

The 3 animals that are at an advanced stage to be revived are The Wolly Mammoth, The Dodo and The Tasmanian Tiger

Cool!

I'm surprised it's not happened sooner, there are plenty of DNA-viable samples from all those animals, and also plenty of living species who could be used to plug any "gaps" or who'd be able to carry the babbers.

Though I suppose available technology is more of an issue than samples?

As much as I hate seeing animals go extinct, not sure playing with nature is a good idea. Especially as woolly mammoths went extinct such a long time ago.

Let's hope they never revive a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Yeah this might be another one of those ' just because they can doesn't mean they should ' .... moments . It is fascinating though.

If humanity caused them to go extinct, why not remedy it?

Fair, but remedy something recently extinct not something that hasn’t been part of nature for thousands of years. It could negatively affect the eco system which isn’t used to this creature suddenly being introduced.

I think it is a big self indulgent, why not focus on animals that are about to go extinct...? Will these animals end up in Zoos?

…’it could take two years even after they’ve worked out how to do it…’…so it’s not that there will be any revival but …is it possible/we don’t know…

…it’s very Jurassic Park and for me, doesn’t feel like any preservation but a jarring and an interference of nature…

they want cash for an idea that is not scientifically feasible yet, so 2028 is a touch optimistic

…there was a very similar article back in January 2023, so almost 2 years ago…?…and it’s still being said ….’even after we work out how to do it…’…if that were to be worked out, there would still be much time for the process so yes, I would say…looking for funding and investors etc…

I was thinking of the impact on the environment.
