Evening guys, Just wondering if any of you know of Dyspraxia?, (Developmental Coordination Disorder), a hidden disability I have which for some reason does not have much awareness compared to other conditions. I personally find It very hard to live with, Tasks such as dressing myself and tying my shoe laces can sometimes be very difficult amongst many other challenges.

Oh hello Kev. Welcome to Tibb. I believe I have mild dyspraxia also. I struggle with buttons etc, can't tie my laces properly. Thank you for sharing.

Dyspraxia, also known as developmental coordination disorder (DCD), can cause a variety of symptoms that vary by person and may change over time:
Movement and coordination: Difficulty with balance, walking up and down stairs, running, jumping, hopping, catching, or kicking a ball Fine motor skills: Difficulty writing, drawing, using scissors, or grasping small objects Daily living skills: Difficulty dressing, doing up buttons, or tying shoelaces Learning: Difficulty learning new skills, or following instructions Memory: Poor memory, especially short-term memory Organization: Difficulty planning, organizing, or time management Social skills: Difficulty listening to people, especially in large groups, or picking up non-verbal signals Emotions: Difficulty dealing with emotions, getting stressed, depressed, or anxious easily Posture: Poor posture and muscle fatigue Rhythm: Lack of rhythm when dancing

I've always felt like I have it but haven't been diagnosed, I have loads of symptoms but I feel discouraged about bringing it up to a professional because I was dismissed when I brought other things up in the past.

It’s quite hard to actually get a certificate-diagnosis of dyspraxia, isn’t it?

Obviously I shouldn't really self-diagnose myself.

Hi Kev. Yes I was diagnosed with it in college. I don't believe mine is severe. I had no idea it was a thing until that point. For me it's more on the learning side though. Not sure my motor skills are effected much by it

I've got "suspected dyspraxia" - a fair amount of the symptoms crossover with another condition I have, but there are things -can't ride a bike, rubbish fine motor skills, "weird" walk, etc- which don't really manifest from my "main" condition, and there was never any additional need to be diagnosed with both.
If that makes sense ![]()
