I get tension headaches in certain weather conditions but I can still function. Migraines are different.

You couldn't work with real migraines.
A friend of mine suffers from them. They often affect her eyes and vision. Then the headache that hits is intolerable. She has to lie down in a dimly lit or dark room for anything from an hour to most of a day. Then can feel really out of sorts for anything from a day to days afterwards. The question I suppose is only are they actually migraines. Because it's correct that you can't really work with a migraine - it's not just a "really bad headache".
If you have a physical job it's likely to affect your balance and coordination so simply not safe. If you have a desk job, it's likely that your concentration will be so fogged that there's no point trying to get much done (and depending on your job costly errors might occur). I've had migraines before, thankfully only 4 or 5 in my whole life (first one maybe 10 - 12 years ago) and several years between them. I did once have one where I went mostly blind lol (vision was like a small peephole through a massive grey sheet, is the only way I can describe it). Not a pleasant experience. |

I used to get migraines a lot. 2 or three a month. Touch wood I haven’t had one in a long time but also now have proper medication should one come on. Awful things to have.

…it’s interesting that the migraines are being linked to the stormy weather because I hadn’t had any for a while but I’ve had several over the last while and that’s exactly what my link was…/…the atmospheric pressure changes with the storms…it’s a huge migraine trigger…I can only really speak for myself and how disabling a migraine can be…a few people have listed symptoms, plus nausea which I don’t think has been mentioned is another thing and not being able to stay upright without vomiting….just to echo though what Glenn said, there is prevention medication for when people feel a migraine onset so it’s not all bleak and disabling…it can be ‘zapped’ at its roots as well and its legs swiped from under it…

Mine aren't weather related, but at their worst they can be and have been rough enough to need to stay in. It's rather seldom that they're THAT bad though!

…yeah that’s why I can only really speak for myself because migraine triggers are different for each person…mine aren’t all linked to atmospheric pressure/significant weather changes but it was one of the triggers…also the clock change in spring and autumn, actually….

You’re lucky. I’ve only had a few in my life and they are honestly excruciatingly painful.

Some people say they have a migraine when they have a headache in the same way some people say they have the flu when they have a cold.

We need to crack down on these shirkers.
![]() The crazy benefits system really annoys me, too. Off work for years, free money, for nothing. Just very lazy people. NOT ALL. But a lot are. These people need a good kick up the backside and their benefits stopped. ![]() |
