Default USA TV: CBS Cancels :The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to end in 2026

[Cancellation comes a few days after
Colbert criticised network’s parent company
for settlement with Trump,
which he called a ‘bribe’

‘I am extremely sad’: celebrities react
to the end of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show

Stephen Colbert on Trump’s Epstein
controversy: ‘Desperately looking for a scapegoat’]

It is a shame it is not
on UK TV

[The settlement coincided with
Paramount seeking approval from
the US Federal Communications Commission
for an $8.4bn merger with Skydance Media.
Colbert called the settlement “a big fat bribe”.

Colbert, who has hosted the talkshow since 2015,
announced the news during
Thursday night’s recording,
telling the audience he had been told
of the decision the previous night.

As the audience booed, he said,
“Yeah, I share your feelings.

“It’s not just the end of the show,
it is the end of the Late Show on CBS.
I’m not being replaced,
this is all just going away,” Colbert said.

Traditional TV and a lot of it's tropes are going away.

Some of it is for the better, some of it is a sad loss to Entertainment Programmes on Streamers as they can sometimes lack the charms of a Network or Cable Show.

Flaws and all.

Tbh I never watched Stdphen Colbert's Chat Show, but it is an end of yet another long lasting TV Show from America's bygone era that they'll never get back in that type of way ever again.

It's sad to see imo.

His bosses sacked him because Trump wasn’t happy with someone telling the truth about him, typical dictator nonsense, shame on any media companies that bend the knee to authoritarianism

[The CBS network insisted that it had
made “a purely financial decision”
to wind up The Late Show next year.
But others are not so sure. Adam Schiff,
a Democratic senator who was a guest
on Thursday’s show, tweeted:
“If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for
political reasons, the public deserves to know.
And deserves better.”]

Tbh, it wouldn't shock me if you're correct here.

Well you will be doubly shocked to know his information is rubbish

He was losing £40,000,000 a year

Advertising revenue for Colbert's show has dropped 40% since 2018 - the
financial reality that CBS said prompted the decision to end “The Late Show” in
May 2026. One former TV network executive said the program was a casualty
of the fading economics of broadcast television.

His type of show is yesterday's news

Fair enough.

The timing does feel a bit odd, but admittedly the loss financial loss does look extreme.
