Default Microsoft has a bug in their latest cumulative update KB5063878

https://www.windowslatest.com/2025/0...failure-issue/

don't immediately panic, but thoroughly check for certain things

1) check if your SSD Drive, which is C on your computer, has used up more than 60% of storage space, if you are below that, you are in the clear

2) check at Device Manager, what your SSD Drive for model is, mainly affects those run with Phison controllers

3) and also happens after a major game update, if you are a active gamer on the PC, and you have games on the SSD Drive/C

i checked mine, i only have used up 30% of storage space on SSD, 70% of free space, my model hasn't got phison controller, and i never play games on the PC, i only use PC for internet and my music (which also is on D not on the SSD drive since i already knew about things can go badly for your PC if you clog up the SSD drive)

so if your PC is affected, it is best to uninstall this specific update, and pause the updates

but if your PC isn't affected, then it might be a good update, it only occurs to weakened/clogged up SSD's, and Microsoft are working on releasing fix updates to everyone (i might've gotten a silent fix already last week i think on 19th August when i shut my computer down, it said updates in progress, it quickly installed to 30%, i booted my computer since i want to know about those updates, it quickly went from 30% to 100%, so in case some of you get this too soon idk, microsoft did say they are releasing the fix, silently and automatically)

So far my computer seems to be alright.

Fingers crossed it stays that way as I'm currently playing Cold Fear on PC.

I just ignore Windows update and update less often. Since I'm still on 10 I don't see that many cumulatives come through anymore where they used to be weekly. The only time I deal with unintended bugs through sudden updates is as a tester and it's very annoying to install things, only to have to uninstall/reinstall things, remove data to clean install, etc... all the fun stuff... a lot of developers are switching to the MSIX/Microsoft because they buy into what MS says is the best way of installing their applications and all its done is increase bugs imo... in one case in particular GPU acceleration is nerfed by 20%-22% on tests I've done...

I hope that lawsuit to keep MS from ending Windows 10 support goes through...

really?

coincidentally i received a silent update on 19th of August when i was shutting my computer down, it said ''updates in progress'' which was installed really fast to 30%, and then i booted my computer, really fast install from 30 to 100%

but anyway, i do not have a Phison model (it mainly affects Phison models and a few others), and i take good care of my SSD drive not to clog it with unnecessary apps, games, music, i mean i have D for that, which is like almost 1 Terra Byte of storage space for me
