[LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - At least 11 people are dead
after a UPS cargo plane crashed Tuesday
while taking off from the Louisville airport,
leaving a trail of flames just
miles from the city's downtown.

The plane crashed at about 5:15 p.m.
after its left wing caught fire.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft,
made in 1991,
was departing for Honolulu from
UPS Worldport at Louisville
Muhammad Ali International Airport.]

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said others had
"very significant" injuries.

due to the lengthy trip to Hawaii - sparking a

what a mess


we have a solid first lead, left engine was engulfed in flames, is this something similar to Concorde? was there something on the runway and debris from a burst tyre puncturing the left wing fuel tank


couldn't have been the weather, not in November tbh, unlike TWA Flight 800 which was due to a short-circuit and overheating played a factor there

highest recorded ground speed received was 186 knots (344 km/h; 214 mph)


that is really fast, if there was something on the runway something sharp, that easily could've destroyed the tyre and made it flown upwards towards the wing



that ground speed, they had to take off, because that was past V1, beyond any safe way of aborting take off, they were doomed from the moment they reached V1

okay, the left engine separated from the aircraft apparently
