there are thousands of contributing factors to people becoming mentally ill. Once in that state, it's a failure of services and procedures that allow them to spiral out of control and become a danger to the community.

My take from all this is that a lot of people should be looking at themselves thinking what could they have done better.

The person who authorised the return of the guns to a home where there was a mentally ill person needs to look at themselves

and the person who pleaded to have them returned if alive needs to take responsibility

…I’ll post this full article link that I was reading earlier and just highlight some of the many disturbing aspects leading up to these killings…

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/cana...uns-questions/

On Aug. 24, 2025, a new user calling themselves @jessssz opened an account on a website that bills itself as a place to post gore videos of people dying violently.

The user posted photos of guns – including an SKS rifle and a KRISS Vector gun – and a cat that matches photos on social-media accounts that The Globe and Mail has confirmed belonged to the shooter and her mother. The user wrote “I appreciate this post” in response to a long compilation of mass shooting videos.

RCMP Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald said Friday of the two firearms used at the school, police are unsure of the origins of the one that caused the most amount of damage. It had never been seized by police.

“We’re trying to determine how the suspect got that firearm. The investigation is continuing.”

Of the two firearms used in the killings at the shooter’s home, one was a shotgun, an unregistered weapon that had never been previously seized, he said.

…and the last paragraph…

The closest the gun licensing process comes to examining any risk posed by other members of a gun user’s house appears to be a yes-or-no question on the application and renewal forms asking: “Do you know if you have ever been reported to the police or social services for violence, threatened or attempted violence, or other conflict in your home or elsewhere?”

I didn’t think that websites like this were even legal ???

I have guns in the house, we both shoot clays so we have two shotguns. They're inaccessible to anyone other than my o.h. and me. My kids definitely couldn't access them and if someone broke in they're locked in a metal gun safe, the keys are hidden somewhere safe and the ammo stored separately. Neither of us could have got a licence if we'd ever been treated for depression. I know our laws here are more stringent, but the owner of the guns involved in this awful crime should go away for a long time because they share responsibility.

Interesting …

May I ask if you also have handguns in the house as well ( I suspect not given you didn’t mention anything)

Also would you ever consider use the shotguns for self defence ?

The murderer seemed to have access to funds so must have been indulged by a a family member as its doesn't appear that they held down a job

You can't legally keep handguns in the UK, so no.

By the time we'd got the keys, unlocked the ammo, unlocked the guns and loaded them, we'd either be dead or the robbers would have cleaned us out and be long gone.

My husband's from Texas but we live in Norfolk. Yes, Maru's in Texas.

We have some "weapons" laying around too. Also a big dog and a good security system.

Ahh

We had a few ‘guard’ dogs

The Italian Greyhound used to watch out for the whole cul de sac but sat on window sill trembling if anyone knocked at the door ..

The Irish Red Setters would just jump on them and lick everyone to death …
