Default Unpopular Opinions Thread

All opinions you feel are unpopular, so long as they’re not too controversial, are welcome here. My own to begin with is that Carolina Reaper, at least the way I cook them, aren’t too spicy (maybe it would be different if I ate one whole; scotch bonnets are hot enough raw and whole) and that the whole ‘pre vs. post-pandemic’ tingy-o is very annoying. The general state of the world was poor long before February 2020 and plenty of individual things have always been on their own time-trajectory, not necessarily influenced by the pandemic at all. EastEnders for example is the best it’s been in years and years (the 2010s - besides 2010, 2014, 2019 and maybe some of 2011, even if that was the year it started tanking big-time - were notoriously mostly garbage and increasingly unpopular) but some ignorant people who probably don’t really even watch the show take the cue of life apparently beginning again from Covid onwards and cap off the classical era at just when the pandemic begun. It’s become fashionable to blame everything on a pandemic that came and went (more or less) 2/3 years ago and now a lot of individual trajectories have been mapped onto the ‘oh, since Covid, it’s been crap’ rhetoric even when it could not be more relevant in those individual cases.

As for the pepper-dem ting … well. Peppers come in all shades across the world and some are hotter than others but there’s a way they can be mellowed and curbed some. Yellow habanero peppers (ose Nsukka, it’s known as locally in the part of Nigeria it comes from) are probably just as hot as Carolina Reaper but they’ve never been measured against each-other officially. That would be an interesting call but until then I’m more inclined to say that those little yellow peppers are slightly hotter.

Also. I don’t know how unpopular these are but barbecue (I.M.O.) has, like, no place on pizza and beer > vodka any day, any time, anywhere.

And that’s my lot for now. Come and add your own.

I don't think racism is as much of big thing it's being portrayed in the UK media, and social media right now.

.......

The left leaning people only seem to care about racism when it's white vs any other race. Perfect example being the Asian guy vs the Black woman.

Had that shop owner been white?!

......

The Tories are scum, but why do people risk their lives daily to get here in the UK?

Six unpopular opinions that I hold.

1. Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric was a fun Game, I would like to see it have a re-release someday, but then I do like Game Preservation, but my point still stands.

2. I prefer L.A Noire to RDR out of Rockstar's non-GTA Games.

3. Berserk 2016 was a great Anime, just because it has CGI doesn't change the fact that it has one of the greatest stories ever told imo. Even if certain chapters were admittedly cut (which puts the adaptation behind Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy for me) out of LidenFilms Animes that I've seen, but still it's a very good Anime, and imo a lot better than a lot of people will give it credit for.

4. I don't mind Marc Roberts for Blues, I always find that he gives 100% to the club.

5. Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy is better than Chainsaw Man out of the Ecchi Fantasy Animes.

6. I like the taste of Vegan food.

The sexist tradition of women marrying into a man’s family (even if just on paper) is more important than half the stuff third-wave feminists talk about.

Some people always ask "what's your definition of Woke?” And my answer is simple, because the west has a huge issue in certain industries with this mentality that I'm about to mention.

And that is if all of the women hired for a TV Show or Film are ugly (just to be blunt about it) then it's most likely going to be ultra hateful against men.

I don't know why that is because I don't think that it's necessarily a thing in other corners of the world, but if the women are ugly in western entertainment I do tend to find that Misandry comes with the territory, along with unhinged/neurotic behaviour.

Now obviously in real life not every unattractive woman (imo unattractive anyway) are unhinged or neurotic, but for some reason in the West we don't tend to see normal average looking or ugly looking women on TV, we see people that feel like they need to take medication representing these groups instead.

And yes, I have recently watched Nina off The Traitors Ireland recently that has sent me on this rant.

I've got two more unpopular opinions to share with you all, especially the last one.

1. I personally believe that false Advertisements for TV Shows or other forms of entertainment Media where the customer has to pay for it to experience it, should lead to fines, criminal charges brought towards the company that created the product/helped finance the product, and just have a lot more legal ramifications on anyone that's misleading people on what the product is going to be about.

My number one complaint that I have for this will always be The Haunting Of Bly Manor, they even have dialogue in the finale that brags about tricking/scamming their audience. In any other line of work you would be arrested for confessing to scamming people out of their hard earned cash, but not if you're working for Netflix it seems.

And 2. I personally don't believe that having sexual preferences in terms of race is racist. I know that it's mad controversial what I'm about to say, but I honestly don't see what the difference is between someone having a sexual preference in race to someone else having a sexual preference on hair colour or some other preferences? Without being too crude about what those other preferences could be.

Imo I don't see those types of people as racist, like for example if a black woman came up to me and said that she didn't find white men attractive but she treats me with respect still, then I don't see that as racist.

I'm more of a hair colour preference guy than racial preferences personally, but I don't see anything wrong with the latter as long as the individual isn't being hateful, because that would be racist at that point.

Now I'm going to go into hiding.

Totally fine to have preferences, Mock. It’s just like preferring blondes to brunettes. No-one’s ever racist just because they have certain preferences in dating/following up on attraction, so long as that’s all it is. I was listening to a podcast the other day when one British-Asian guy said he preferred not to get involved with black women sexually because they had a certain “smell”. Now that’s out of line. What you’re describing are just valid, natural, healthy preferences and the boundaries we create within them. It’s not really anyone else’s business, and it definitely doesn’t make you a bad person. It just makes you human.

I'm glad that you can see my point Redway.

Because I have seen a couple of guys on the Internet recently get pulled up for having racial preferences, and from what I saw the two guys didn't really say anything that made me think that they were being racist, or at least in the way that I look out for.

Yeah, don’t worry. You’re not doing anything wrong by having preferences. When people have a problem with that, it usually says more about them than the other person. And I do find more people than not are willing to be reasonable about things like this, to be fair, Mock.

That's a fair point, maybe I'm thinking that it's more people than it actually is because they're quite vocal on the Internet, which I know doesn't always translate as the majority viewpoint on a topic tbf, but it can look a bit intimidating to have what seems like a differing view at first glance to these people that believe that it's racist to have preferences.

You should have to be 21 before you can app!y for a provisional driving licence. No one under 16 should have a smart phone. From age 11 they could have a "dumb" phone just for calls and texts.

Sadly even if all those excellent ideas were on place .. it would make no difference as everyone would find a way around the rules and laws

I could be on board with all of that. The only one I might say isn't as practical is 21 as a driving age. It would very likely push forward most other major milestones like voting or even delay going to college (if needing to self-transport). At least it would in the US because of our dependency on vehicles. It's a huge burden on the parents to have to continue to manage large portions of their lifestyle and for some young adults, not being to "move on" early enough can lead to problems with motivating themselves. I know too many peers who didn't move out until their 30s and they developed poor coping mechanisms and still have poor mental health because they were never pushed to do anything too uncomfortable so they became stunted. I did without a license until 29 but my situation was unique. I lived in a DC suburb so there was good access to things thanks to great funding in that county. I had been independent since 19 having moved in with hub then and it was until I moved back to my home state where the cost of living wasn't so insane that I went to get a license. It was hard for us in the beginning but totally worth it to be independent.

I agree completely about smart phones. I don't think it's doing our brains any favors, much less the ones that are still developing...

You have lots of room in the US. We have so many cars and so many people on our tiny island. Where I grew up in east London, the houses are mostly small and quite close together and off-road parking was always a rarity. Now, both parents and at least one kid has a car, despite the copious amount of transport available. Consequently life is being made impossible for drivers, nowhere to park, charges even to drive into London. Driving is becoming unsustainable Britain is slowly being priced out of being able to drive.

I couldn't afford a car until I was in my 20s and didn't pass my test till 22. But I rode a motorbike from age 17 and all through my uni years. I wouldn't suggest that for anyone, though. It was dangerous then, it's terrifying now with roads so busy, car drivers on their phones, looking at their satnav... And you know, you can't legally drink alcohol in the US until you're 21. Personally I wouldn't mind the age of majority returning to 21 for everything.

finally, the vast majority of accidents involve young people, mostly young men. That's because we're all quite stupid when we're very young and think we're invincible. If only we were...

…I would say that ‘cheating’ is defined within the partnership itself as different levels of trust/boundaries etc are laid out on a personal level also…there is no one fixed definition of cheating…/…micro cheating but yes of course, it’s also something that can happen…

Interesting concept - micro cheating ..

So has my beautiful wife been micro cheating when she chose two Richard Gere ( her longtime celeb crush) movies for us to watch midweek - because I honestly don’t mind .. I enjoyed both movies and even cried at the end I when he carried her out of the factory

( Officer and a Gentleman plus Pretty Woman )
