I acknowledge that Iran’s former leadership was brutal, but I keep coming back to the same question: is it really the responsibility of the USA and Europe to intervene—and for what benefit? What do we actually gain by entering yet another conflict in the Middle East? In the short term, I don’t see any obvious advantages for our security, our economy, or our political stability.

History hasn’t treated these interventions kindly. We remove one regime, only for another group to fill the vacuum—often just as untrustworthy, sometimes even worse. It can take years, sometimes a decade or more, before the West even begins to understand the new power structure, let alone influence it. And during that entire period, it’s ordinary people who suffer the consequences.

That’s what concerns me most. People are dying right now, and once a war begins, it becomes incredibly difficult to control or contain. Conflicts like this escalate quickly, and as more civilians are killed, the pressure to retaliate—officially or unofficially—only increases. That’s how small wars turn into regional ones.

So yes, Iran has been a problem for a long time. But does that automatically make it our responsibility to “liberate” them? And what does liberation even look like when there are still half a million armed loyalists to the regime? These are the questions no one seems willing to address, yet they’re the ones that matter most.

Yes,
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
was established 46 years ago.

Above the Army.

Of Course,
President Trump is not looking at that long history.

So 4 or 5 more weeks of Intense Bombing
will look like another Iraqi mess.
to be honest

Totally agree.

You’re absolutely right about the IRGC’s long history. It’s been embedded above the regular army for nearly half a century, and that scale gets ignored far too often. You’re also spot on that short‑term thinking from political leaders doesn’t take any of that into account. Framing this as something that can be fixed in a few weeks of heavy strikes really does risk repeating the same pattern we saw in Iraq.

Default A March in support of Iran is scheduled to take place on Mothers Day

How ironic that a March in support of a regime that supresses women will take place on a day that celebrates them.... Many Iranians called into LBC this morning to say it should not go ahead and the majority on this March will never have been in Iran or never plan to...

Of course I assume it will go ahead

Well they called off a March in Whitechapel because it might upset the locals, many Iranians are not happy about this going ahead, why in a Western allegedly civilised society would anyone march in support of Iran and to what end

615 passengers are on a Return Flight
from Dubia (limited flights have now resumed) right now
The Emirates' first flight is to arrive, soon at Gatwick

And also another to land at Manchester Airport.

Or it could just mean we keep finding more and more things that really need fully blowing up (like supply lines and ****)... and if we're already there, might as well finish it all off.

This is also a good opportunity to deal with anything China is doing there.

Is every issue just going to be just one big long thread now?
