Default Have you ever gone to an Alpha/Advent/Lent-type course?

I mean, I know that ’tis the season of Lent as we are now (and all-things lamb, or as much as you can tolerate without getting bored), but it’s a quite similar kind of thing to the equivalents done during the autumn-months, and this Easter just got me thinking. Have you ever filled in time some evenings doing these Alpha-type courses, or haven’t you ever done anything like that?

You don’t have to be especially religious in the organised sense to attend courses like this. You may or may not be, or maybe in-between (i.e., on the fringes of organised religion). You could be coming at life from a more broadly philosophical lens, spiritual in a different way or just curious. It doesn’t matter. You can just go in, turn up, have a bit of a chat about life, or maybe say nothing yourself at-all, and have some tea and biscuits. You might turn up with more definite, probing questions and opinions that want to be expressed. Again, it doesn’t matter. They just take people as they age, so long as they’re respectful enough and able to do-exist in the same space as active Christians. To some people, all-that is nonsense, but it can actually be really comforting and useful for some people. Bhudists and agnostics included. And so-on.

Let’s just say we all sang (or stood silently in-line to) All Things Bright and Beautiful. We all know how it is.

Have you ever been sat in Sunday school at 5 years old, alone in the corner when your parents pick you up...a big scared poop in your little shorts?

Placed by the matron in the corner because of the stench?

Luckily I can't remember that. My 86 yr old Mum does though

Sunday school’s always been a funny one for me. I was known as the man with the golden voice by one of the teachers there, and that’s stayed with me for life, those words. So kind.

I always thought the building itself was a bit shabby, though. It was a port-a-cabin, and it didn’t always feel as clean as it could’ve, even if it was technically okay. But that’s just me being extra.

Brownringer. The man with the golden voice.

Musical score performed by Benjamin.

Me and Barry White do have a bit of a thang going on. Extra-low bass when gin or whiskey is involved (somehow).

I'm not the most talkative person to strangers irl.

So it's not really my scene.

Fair play to anyone that enjoys these kinds of things though.

It's Passover for me, but of course that does play right into Easter. I did go to separate lessons away from my school but it was largely for Hebrew. I did attend assemblies and Christmas events at school because my parents felt it's good to experience it and makes us less of a mystery. I never felt the need to separate myself for faith reasons, my faith brings my family closer and we share these festivals and feasts together.
